This from Sam at fire confidential

I've also heard from various sources that the Fire does indeed have interest in Collins John. I asked Frank about this last week and he had no comment at the time. However, I've been told that terms have been agreed to but that the Fire wants to have a face-to-face meeting with John before anything is signed.

Collins. John is a risk. I think he is a worthwhile risk however. He isn't costing us a transfer fee. He has lost the plot a bit since his fulham days but it can't get any worse. if he comes here with the right attitude I think he will do well. Think about it this way, he is coming in to replace a striker who scored 6 or 7 (can't remember) goals last year. Both club and player have nothing to lose.

As long as it's not that much of a Salary hit, I'm all for this gamble.

With Blanco's salary gone John would be fine I imagine, I think he could be great for us if he can get his head on straight

Hmm this is an interesting one. What made the Fire decide, "Hey let's go sign this guy!"?

My guess? RSL was asking too much for Conor Casey.

We'll see, I hope he doesn't end up sulking next to Justin on the field.
"Dave Checketts and SCP Worldwide partners Dean Howes, Kenneth Munoz, Michael McCarthy and Chris Bevilacqua, chose Real Salt Lake for the team's name because they desired to associate the team with a successful soccer club, and "Fire" was already taken."

Good question but my guess is no transfer fee, Premiership experience, Brian McBride has played with him before. I do wonder if it was Frank's idea or McBride was like 'hey, let's get Collins John'

Collins John is one of those players who I've often wondered about, in the "where has he disappeared to?" sorta way. He's obviously got talent, he's got experience, and he's only 24...but, there are huge flags up as well. I mean, though he was apparently offered a deal at Bristol City last July, which is a positive as they are not a bad side, he was basically sacked by his last club for disciplinary reasons after 11 scoreless matches. Rumours about his attitude and fitness are not great.

I'm not sure who to compare him to (Wanchope was a lot older, similarly with Akinbiyi at Houston, etc. Junior Agogo was younger and perhaps a lot hungrier.), but I just feel he's the type of signing that hasn't often gone right for the league. I'd love him to prove me wrong, because if he could, we'd have a top striker, but I'm doubtful...

Actually, Swindon have just gone for a similar deal, signing ex-Juventus youngster Vincent Pericard, who had his best years at Portsmouth a while back, and is only 27, but has spent some time on benches and, more importantly, in jail. However, we signed him after he spent six months at struggling Carlisle and did well for them, and after watching him (once) you can see he's got class and can help us, it's just a matter of his attitude...
