Changes are afoot for the CONCACAF Champions League starting with the 2012-13 edition of the tournament, and they’re the sort that could have a profound effect not only on fixture congestion, but on the future of the burgeoning rivalry between MLS and Mexican Primera División sides.
Starting this summer, the two-leg preliminary round – in which 16 teams would face off in a home-and-home series – has been eliminated. Instead, all 24 teams in the event will be drawn straight into the group stage. Each of the eight groups will have three teams, and MLS and Mexican sides can’t be drawn into the same group.

HA! But don't count out Sigi and his ability to out eat an entire stadium into submission.Ten minutes into the return leg, and Santos Laguna have pulled ahead of the Refunders on aggregate goals.
Edit: All tied on the agg at the half.

Probably I should be rooting for the Sounders, just because I know we can deal with those guys. But their fans are just so annoying.
20 minutes later Herc adds another; now 5-3 Santos on aggregate.
Another Santos goal at 75 minutes. Ouch.
And yet another at 80 minutes. Damn. If we get past the Canuckleheads this evening, I hope we figure something out for our defense.

Why isn't he getting called up for the Nats?
EDIT: 5-1? I guess the Refunders are done. That makes me so happy.
EDIT 2: 6-1

Long time before MLS can argue with Mexico about being the best league. Galaxy/RSL/Seattle/etc. would have probably won that by 2 goals at most.

I'm surprised at how TFC goes some serious spells controlling this game.
Still need to win by 2 or 3 if they want to win in Mexico.

I enjoyed seeing Toronto give them a game and battle with Santos. Going to Mex is obviously gonna be tough.
