Backe mentioned "all five" trialists - you listed six there. Can't imagine they would waste an international slot on Alvarez (I assume he doesn't have a green card).

Good question. The guy was playing for an NPSL team and he's 18. I assume he has a green card because I can't envision an NPSL team getting a P1 visa for one of their guys. Maybe he had a student visa? Anything is possible.

I think you have to take that kind of number with a grain of salt. "All" is probably the right term and he just missed on the actual number.

That said, he would "like" to sign all, meaning they are all worthy, but there may not be cap space, or in the case of Alvarez Intl. slots, to sign them all. The I-slot may knock Leobarrdo out of contention, but if he is decent I would love to have one more backup there.

Anyone know if Alvarez is a CB or a LB/RB?

Don't remember him playing, but he looked better in those highlights than any other back up player we had last season. He seems to have some good offensive and defensive qualities even though it was with the Scum.

Midfielders Ryan Maduro and Brandon Barklage, and strikers Jose Angulo, Jhonny Arteaga, Giorgi Chirgadze all traveled back with the team from Mexico, and will be going to Arizona as well.

Leobardo Álvarez, 21-year-old Mexican centerback, isn't in camp now but will rejoin the club next week; while trialists Tyler Ruthven and Willis Forko - who were in the 1st leg of training camp - will meet them in Arizona as well.

Red Bulls value guys from FC New York over their own academy products.

Now that gives me the warm and fuzzies.

The New York Red Bulls previously kicked around Major League Soccer as the MetroStars with limited success. But after transforming under a new banner in 2005, the Red Bulls have become a force to be reckoned with in the Eastern Conference. The club has made leaps of progress since its previous incarnation and now has its focus on bringing the league title to New York. Leobardo Alvarez , a former champion in Under 20 Tigers , will join New York Red Bulls on a temporary basis, by testing with the team while doing preseason bullfighting in Mexico. The footballer and played in the U.S., as was in Hollywood , in the U.S. fourth division after leaving the youth team of cats.

Alvarez, a defender, will seek to stay on campus which also militates Mexican Rafael Marquez . His foray to mean a team option for the technician to supply Tim Ream . also test with the team of Hans Backe are goalkeeper Mathew Glaeser and defender Ray Yeboah , who was part of the basic forces of AZ Alkmaar .

While it doesn't belong on this topic, I'll bite. Long time reader, first time poster.

No they don't. They value the $70,000 in allocation money which can be parlayed into a midfielder DP over two so-far unimpressive academy products from an academy which certainly is capable of producing more players.
