Yeah, this draft has actually turned out to be more significant for us than anyone probably thought.  Still wonder if any one of them will ever play for the first team, but we'll see.

Frankly, since I am merely a fan and a not a fancy American soccer writer, I'm going to congratulate Wright-Phillips on a well hit goal. If I was an American soccer writer, I'd claim that the recently retired Henry was wearing an invisibility cloak and carried the ball into the net for the obviously unskilled Wright-Phillips.

If you scan YouTube looking for Bradley Wright-Phillips, youll find numerous goal compilations, a few interviews and, eventually, an excerpt from the grime mixtape series Lord of the Mics.

Either the Union or the Red Bulls are going to look really stupid in a few years.

The Union looks really stupid every year.

Looks like the player out may be Abang.

EDIT: As much as I wish it were true, he hasn't updated Twitter but been active on it. Also they keep referring to "the rights..." leading me to believe it's not a current player.

I am happy with the draft. We got a few guys that can adjust with USL. In a year or two they can compete with the A team

They are gonna try to convert Loebe to wingback:

“Even though he’s played as an attacking player, we felt that having him at our combine and having some discussions as potentially playing as a wingback, that’s something we know he will embrace at the next level to see himself have an opportunity to become a pro,” Hamlett said.”

He's left footed, so helps build depth behind Lawrence if the conversion works.

All we need one of these guys to develop into the real deal over time and it was a good day. Two would be fabulous. They obviously liked Boateng enough to move up to get him.

Red Bulls like they're CBs big and mean. Boateng's at least got the size down!

I missed all the draft flying but again we should remember 95% none of these guys will have any impact on the first team.

Saying that Ill 100% rewatch entire combine matches and any highlight on YouTube next week and see what we got.

Day 1 summary

New York Red Bulls

GRADE: B- It was an interesting, topsy-turvy decision-making process for the Red Bulls. After trading up to add Roy Boateng, a center back that is athletic enough to compete in the league, they tapped former Red Bulls PDL midfielder Janos Loebe. Given their proximity to Sean Nealis they must have seen something in the Hofstra defender. But they probably didnt need to trade up to select him in the second round, though it did bring them closer to Boateng. Rece Buckmaster comes from a tremendous program, although hell need to adapt and adjust very quickly to play at right back in MLS.

Draft summary:

Traded $100,000 in General Allocation Money to Cincinnati for No. 16 overall, No. 25 overall
Traded the rights for a player to be named later for No. 32 overall
Roy Boateng (Round 1, #16)
Janos Loebe (Round 1, #22)
Sean Nealis (Round 2, #25)
Rece Buckmaster (Round 2, #32)

Nelson Rodriguez on the player we are giving them:
"We also got a player who we believe is ready to contribute to the first team, maybe not as a starter but as an important piece, so overall I think it was a good day for us."

Leads me to believe it's a younger player who hasn't seen much time, if any, with us.

Still have a lot of outlets showing "the rights to a player to be named later" while the DC trade was clearly "a player to be named later".

Player could be outside of MLS currently, but I can't think of anyone in that position, or the rights to a young HGP eligible kid.

Making the moves we did to get 4 young guys shows me we are going to try and be more of a profit making feeder team than ever before
