Listen, I know it's a small sample of games, but Dax is solid. With the scoring potential we have, Dax is a steadying force that will help us to be grounded box to box. He's a good passer, and is very heady. Good soccer smarts. As much as I love DeRo, Dax makes this team better, plain and simple.

I'll say this - his type of player is better for our system than a DeRo type of player. Henry has turned out to be something other than a target waiting up top for someone "creative" to get him the ball, so there was too much overlap in roles with a top-of-the-diamond guy. And Dax seems to have the mental and physical game that meshes very well with Teemu. Promising, but too soon to get carried away.

Even though its a small sample of games, I agree. In the past, it seems Dax was hyped up to be one of the next great American players. In DC he wore the captains armband, now he is on NY and look how many guys would be ahead of him to wear the band. In NY, there is less pressure for a guy like Dax to be the man, and instead he can just play the game. All the best for the rest of the season and the future.

Agreed as to not getting carried away. I guess my post was more of a mental pep talk to myself as to the trade, which shocked and disappointed me at first. I am coming around to the fact that DeRo might not have been what we needed when we aquired him, and a player like Dax was more of a fit as to the puzzle.

He seemed like he got great fitness too, which always is an RB weak spot.
Looked like he was running effortlessly the whole time.

This is basically a tactics question. Backe decided that with Titi dropping back as he loves to do, we don't really need a "CAM" in the diamond, so we might as well have two defensive-minded two way midfielders to protect our suspect back four. However, we need a striker like Rodgers who is very active and makes runs to get onto passes from Henry, as well as active wide midfielders who can cut inside. Which we have, so that's good.

There are so many reasons why this was a good trade, but I think most importantly, it gives Teemu some space. After the first few games where he basically commanded the field, teams figured out that you could cut the head off the beast by double teaming him. Then he was stuck passing the ball back or getting hacked, with noone in the middle to help him out. Dax relieves the pressure and gives him someone to thread the ball to.

That being said, I miss that big hunk of meat at the top of the box. Tchani had a lot of problems, he was a rookie for pete's sake. But he was big, and he was a target. I guess Tank is a little hunk of meat who runs around a lot, so we don't need him, but still... he's going to be big one day. Mostly because we let him go. If he stayed he would have wallowed and we would have hated him for it.

I also think it's looking good. We already have the offensive weapons we need, even without DeRo. Dax is a better passer and does a better job breaking up the other team's offensive. DeRo is still a damn good talent, just not what is needed right now. It's the same reason that despite being a good talent, Agudelo is coming off the bench.

The 4-2-3-1 was what we needed. Better build up with someone next to Tainio, and better defending when Tainio isn't left alone the cover the whole midfield against 2 or 3.

Dax had a really good game last night. He brings an energy to the midfield that has been lacking centrally, and his passing ain't too shabby. I also really like watching him and Tanio moving when we have the ball. Dax is always looking for space to run into and that helps a lot. Lindpere and Richards seemed much more free to try and create without having to worry about covering for DeRo who would never play much defense. Three cheers!

Another plus about having a player like Dax is that I think he is suited well for the MLS. He'll rarley miss a game due to International duty call ups and seems to be durable enough to withstand the long, hot and humid summers. Dependable I guess is the best word. You can pencil him in for almost every game.
Whenever I see RSL play, I see Beckerman and think they're lucky to have him, hopefully Dax will stick around long enough to develop into soemthing like that.
PLUS, coming over to 133 after the match, hopping over the advert boards and shaking hands with the entire front row was pure class.

His play has been very good. If we didn't have Dax it would be hard for me to imagine a strong lineup for Saturday with Tainio out. With Dax we will still have some bite in the midfield.

This is the most important thing for me too, De Rosario completely left Tainio out to dry, the guy had to cover the entire middle third of the field by himself on both sides of the ball.
