Eh, I've spent $100 on dumber shit.

#1424893 First goal of the season

It's almost that time again.

Kyle Duncan (really!) is the only rostered player who can end the streak.

The whole Save the Crew/Austin FC/Anthony Precourt situation puts any club moving in a bad scenario. Let's not forget, the Crew were in a far worse spot at the time than we are currently.

There's also the Chivas USA precedent. They shut down a club in the country's 2nd biggest market for 3 years. I don't think they'll do that, but I can also see the league wanting to start from scratch.

#1413375 Metro - Austin Game Thread

Posted by BillFromAstoria on 24 July 2022 - 07:06 PM

Brilliant, as always. Thanks.

Ooh, this is a doozy. I don't have lineups pre-2001 in the database (should not be a problem, as no teenager played other than Howard for a game in 1998), and will only deal with regular season and playoffs...

First time two teenagers started: Magee and Gaven, 6/14/2003: 3:2 home loss to Chicago

First time three teenagers started: Ward, Bradley, and Gaven, 4/30/2005: 3:1 win in Colorado, MLS's first snow game

NO! NO! NO!

5/21/2005, 2:2 tie with New England http://www.metrofana...ory.jsp?ID=2530

Lineup: Wells, Ward, Agoos, Regan, Leitch, Bradley, Lisi, Guevara, Gaven, Djorkaeff, Ibrahim. Subs: Magee, Parke, Wolyniec.

Ward, Gaven, and Ibrahim were 18. Bradley was 17.

9/3/2005: 2:2 tie with KC (orange shirts game) http://www.metrofana...ory.jsp?ID=2839

Lineup: Meola, Ward, Agoos, Mendes, Regan, Bradley, Magee, Guevara, Gaven, Djorkaeff, Ibrahim. Subs: Razov, Galvan Rey, Lisi.

#1379112 New jersey for 2021

Posted by BillFromAstoria on 09 February 2021 - 04:06 PM

Its the darn league contract with Adidas! If clubs were free to negotiate with Nike, Umbro, New Balance, Legea youd get different and unique kits.

The Athletic reported earlier this week that Adidas has begun to assert even more control over the jersey design process. Essentially in the past, teams could submit mockups of what they wanted Adidas to design. Now they are only allowed to submit suggestions in writing as well as several design elements. The only thing clubs have sole control over is what's on the neck (like the new NY logo) or what's on the tag (like the Metro flag on the Dark Mode kit).

So yeah, blame Adidas.

#1361510 No CL for ManCity?

Posted by BillFromAstoria on 14 February 2020 - 09:36 PM

My best guess:

• CAS will give them an injunction to play in the 2020-21 UCL until the ruling is decided

• CAS will rule in favor of UEFA but reduce the ruling to one year

• City won't finish top 4 in the 2020-21 EPL anyway after Pep and a number of players leave, making the whole thing moot

#1358908 Stadium updates

I feel like I might go to more Sky Blue games than RBNY games this year. At least for them, filling the lower bowl would be seen as a huge accomplishment.

The grass behind the goal near the South Ward always dies by the end of the season. It's not a great look. To replace it with turf is just fine for me. Focus their energy on the playing field. Who cares about the sides. By mid-summer the color of the grass will be rich and full, matching the color of the turf and nobody will notice.

#1281176 Gordie Howe Hat Trick (Goal-Assist-Red Card)

Posted by BillFromAstoria on 10 June 2016 - 09:16 AM

(RIP Gordie Howe)

Far as I know, Thierry Henry is the only RBNY player to score a "Gordie Howe Hat Trick" in a game. He earned a Goal, Assist, and a Red Card against Portland in 2011.

Has any other NY player earned this feat?

#1271239 Mike V

Posted by BillFromAstoria on 03 November 2015 - 06:28 PM

When I started coming to games in 2010, Mike V's "Car Wash" yell was a piece of the atmosphere I fell in love with. When I started selling my T-shirts in 2011, he was one of the first to commit to buying one.

I want to yell his "Car Wash" howl on Sunday, even if that's impolite.

Maybe if I do it loud enough, he just might hear it somewhere in that black ether…

#1265846 Results Watch

Posted by BillFromAstoria on 16 August 2015 - 11:11 AM

I haven't updated it for this week yet, but my goals-per-game result predictor doesn't see us losing a game the rest of the season—eventually winning the shield. That's not my bias, we're that good at home, pretty good on the road, and we don't have as tough a remaining schedule as some other teams do.

#1263819 2016: with Austrian Austerity, who gets a raise?

Posted by BillFromAstoria on 28 July 2015 - 08:39 PM

Taxi can and should make a jump to a big league (and a bigger salary) in January if he wants to.

And frankly, I wouldn't begrudge him. New York is just going to be a stop on a long, fantastic career for him.
