Whether you love the team, or just the beer, this is the thread to post links to NUFC articles, discuss transfers, and hopefully celebrate many wins.

Brown Ale related links/stories are cool too.

The first bit of news is that Newcastle has clinched a qualifying spot in UEFA:

Newcastle beat Lillestrom of Norway in Intertoto tournament

It also looks like they're quite busy in the transfer market having just signed Damien Duff:

damien duff from chelski to newcastle is official. not surprised about mickael owen missing out the season. wasn't surprised that he would injure his knee again during the world cup. wasn't surprised he would miss most of last season from knee injuries. has newcastle wasted their money???

Yes - There are other Newcastle threads, but I really have no desire to discuss the team with a bunch of assholes I don't know.

I'd rather discuss it with people that I've actually met, and there is a dozen or so Newcastle fans in LARS.

If you want, you can modify the thread sub title to:

"The Official Toon Army thread for LARS"

Rather you'd discuss it with assholes you do know, like me. Haway the lads!

Duff's signing was a pleasant surprise. Hopefully he pans out.
"Last month I was in the Canary Islands, and I met up with Armada Sur, the supporters group for CD Tenerife. When the subject of MLS comes up one of the first things they ask me about is if I've heard of the Riot Squad and they mention that one of them has a LARS shirt, and describes the gask mask guy logo.

Halfway around the world and I can't get away from you guys?!?!"

Yes!

That was exactly my point.

We should also get a group together to go to an English pub to watch the occassional game on Saturday morning. That would be good to do during the Galaxy off season.

hey short guy, i think it was me who had told you all was not lost for Newie at the end of last season because of the intertoto...

if they finish the duff deal, this might be my team for this next season... i like duff! and i like newcastle! HOORAY BEER!

as far as their season goes, i think it will all depend on staying healthly. they got worked over by the injury bug last season. thank god they fired their coach. i hope that mexican-american kid really steps it up this season as well. if all goes well, the could finish top 7!
STEVE SAMPSON; STILL THE GREATEST COACH OF THE LA GALAXY. EVER. PERIOD. EXCLAMATION POINT. NUF SAID. JAJAJA!

Hey Tall Guy,

That was last May. This is July.

A new season is on the horizon, and hope is in the air.

If the coming season is anything like the last 50 or so, I'll be despondent again come April/May.

Fortunately, that will be exactly the time that the Galaxy season kicks off again.

This shit is like crack.

I've heard of it. Think it's a song or something else.

I've heard The Blaydon Races sung a number of times. There's no way anybody but a Geordie can decipher the words when they sing it at St. James' Park.

Ah yes, a little Geordie dialect for hometown flavor:

Oh me lads, you should've seen us gannin'
Passing the folks along the road
just as they were stannin'
Aal the lads and lasses there
aal wi' smilin' faces
Gannin along the Scotswood Road
To see the Blaydon Races

Have you heard the song "Dirty Mackems" to the tune of "Alouette"? Cool stuff.
