#1349559 EPL Interest in Aaron Long

Posted by ivo on Yesterday, 12:34 PM

I feel the same way.

I don't want this to be a club that stifles the ambitions of its players.  If he has a chance to play in the Premier League, and he can go at a time that allows us to find a replacement, then I wish him well.

As a general club rule, I'd make it clear to any players joining the club that they won't be allowed to leave in the summer under any circumstances.  Winter, feel free; summer, absolutely not.

This approach totally makes sense from the club's perspective, but is not at all great for the player.

Euro teams usually look for full time solutions in their offseason. The winter window is generally for desperate moves/impact additions, so the demand for players is significantly lower. It's not like a Prem team looking to sign Long now will wait for him for 4 months until January; they'll just sign another guy.

watched the replay - 3rd goal is on both Murillo and Robles.
Murillo clearly sees Robles coming for the ball and goes to shield Morgan.  Robles is out kinda far.  Although I've seen similar plays many times before with Murillo shielding.
Wonder what was being said (if anything).  In non pro games thats a ball that ends up in the stands for safety.
Credit to Morgan for recovering balance and his hustle.

Whats everyone else think?

Easy to blame Murillo for not kicking it away or shielding better (and he should have!), but Robles needs to be in charge of the situation one way or another and direct Murllo what to do.

MLS would have to also approve the terms of the loan. That is why Leipzig or Manchester city couldnt get messi and loan him to one of the ny teams for $1

Pretty sure MLS would approve that exact loan in a heartbeat!

"If a player scores fewer than 4 points by reference to the Part A objective criteria
and a Cumulative Total Score of fewer than 5 points under the Part A and Part B
objective criteria, the Exceptions Panel is guided to refuse a GBE unless it is satisfied, following its subjective review, that the player is internationally established at the highest level and that his employment will make a significant contribution to the development of football at the highest level in England."

I don't see him getting to either 4 or 5. Maybe Berhalter testifies that Long would have played in the group stage finale except for (whatever reason), and they allow him in on the narrowest of exceptions.

Though I'd never doubt the stunning incompetence of English teams with regard to work permits. They fuck up these things all the time.

He's definitely not automatically getting a work permit like you pointed out. But the language in "unless it is satisfied, following its subjective review [...]" means that the panel can still make an exception, and I don't think it would be a huge surprise if he does get a permit.

Again, assuming the interest is actually real, an offer gets accepted, etc.

Not really the point. They should not be given a platform to bitch and moan about the call on the field for 5 minutes. That falls on the referees. This isnt injury/foul stoppages. Its a controllable situation. If theyre going to cry like that, cards need to be handed out and they need to put a stop to it.

100% agree that the discussion took way too long, and yellows should have been handed out, but adding time back after the fact is perfectly acceptable.

From the DVR, 4 minutes from our second goal to the restart. 5 minutes for the multiple injuries (Long, Muyl) and 3 subs taking their time seems fair.

The ref does seem to be telling the NYC players that he made the decision (tapping his chest multiple times). TV never shows what the ref did or didn't do.

Funny part is Callens, who made the clearance, was upset by the AR's corner decision and was claiming it was a throw-in, all while slowly walking back, even after the ball was played in.

Great finish by Royer. Fuck NYC.

Big win. 5 points out of first with 2 games in hand on East leaders Philly. A point ahead of ATL.

NYC 7 points behind Philly with 4 games in hand.

That's a BS call, but once you've made the decision as a ref, why is a 3-minute debate happening with the NYCFC players at the sideline??

Yeah, he's out there completing 55% of his passes.

3 giveaways on the ground to the 1st man ahead of him. 55 is fine if he's trying Hollywood passes every time but for 10 yard rollers it's embarrassing.

Need to do better offensively 2nd half, throw Kaku on early for Rza. We aren't creating anything.

Bill is DOA in the current Senate/administration in any case.

This WaPo article has detailed analysis: https://www.washingt...-less-than-men/

Imho, USNT per diems and per game pay should be equal, but those amounts are peanuts in the grand scheme of things.

Bridging the gap between the FIFA WC awards to teams is a much larger sticking point. The FIFA WC bonus for all men's teams was 400M; the champions alone received $38M. For the WWC, the amounts were 30M, and 4M, respectively, an order of magnitude of difference. You could argue these amounts are due to different levels of interest and revenue but they are also completely arbitrarily set by FIFA

Getting USSF to just pay for that (for the US teams), essentially demanding a few million more for the extremely popular USWNT could happen.

Fixing FIFA in our lifetimes won't - and as many people love to point out, obviously women's soccer is less popular than men's so a discrepancy in worldwide revenue and pay is to be expected due to market forces. But you can start bridging the gap at least.

Putting more money in the women's game (not just winners' prizes, but development from an early stage) on a worldwide level would help that immensely. Infantino is talking a good game, but we'll see what actually happens. https://www.espn.com...ble-prize-money

Note: as Megan Rapinoe pointed out (can't find it at the moment), doubling the WWC prizes from 30 to 60M would be nice. But at the same time, the men's prizes are expected to go up by more than 30M, so the overall gap would actually increase in absolute terms.

It looked like a dive but gotta keep your hands off him in that situation

Yeah, agree with that but not with the overreactions about his general play today.

How many minutes did he get in Houston? Id think theyd want to get him a few extended sub appearances before giving him astart.

The plan was probably to play him a bit before we went down 2 or 3. For tomorrow, I'd guess a start as it's a big game, and a 2nd half sub if needed.

He was onside when the ball is played.

He was not offside when the ball rebounded because to be offside the player must be closer to goal than both the ball and the 2nd to last opponent.  Nicolas was 'onside with regards to the ball' per the laws of the game, as the shot was in front of him and bounces back to him, he is never closer to goal than the ball after the initial shot.

Not sure why the position when the ball hits the bar or when he gets the ball, or the position relative to the ball when the ball rebounds are even being discussed.

He wasn't offside when the shot happened, that's all that matters.
