#1254555 Metro - Blue Team Game Thread

Posted by LAtoNYC on 11 May 2015 - 08:59 AM

Big round of applause to the South Ward for the energy last night. I brought 10 people to the match, a few were first timers, and they all loved it.  Our supporters matched the effort of the boys on the pitch and it was a really proud moment to see it all happen together.

A note on the baseball fans....

I sit in 127 and I'm the loudest and most obnoxious person in my section at every match, but I do my best to keep away from too much swearing and keep it classy (though at times unsuccessfully).  There were a few scattered baseball fans around me and not one of them complained during the match and I caught a few of them laughing at the cracks.  But the second I went up at halftime there was a whole crap-load of young boys in blue drunk and angrily chanting directly at people.  There was a baseball fan sitting right in front of me by himself for the match who came up the steps behind me and actually told me that he was disappointed with how weak their supporters were in the first half.  The look on his face when he saw those boys and them some others come along and do the same was sheer horror.  He left about 10 minutes before the match ended with his head down.  It's one thing to sing and have fun during the match, but when you start directing energy at other fans it crosses the line and that's when problems happen. The display by the baseball supporters group as they were leaving the stadium was downright hideous.  Tons of them yelling and screaming nonsense.  Our security needs to be more aware and have a few extra bodies next time the baseball team comes to see a soccer match.

Something to think about...

When my Girlfriend and I traveled to Montreal with some of you guys, final score aside, it was the most fun I ever had outside the Philly and DC trips. My Girlfriend, in her very first road trip with you guys and mind you, not really a big sports fan, genuinely ENJOYED herself joining in the chants, cheers and everything else that went on in our little section at the decrepit Big O. Basically, the whole experience validated my overall respect and admiration to all of you guys at South Ward. I was proud of her, but most of all, I was proud of you.

Then, it hit me: Here we are just one little group among thousands was a force to be reckoned with in hostile territory on the ROAD. Wondering why on earth can't you folks create the very same thing when we have not one, not two, but THREE full sections of rabid supporters making noise for the boys at home. AT HOME! Imagine the shit the enemy goalkeepers have to put with ALL of you harassing him! And I mean EVERY LAST ONE of you! I know it’s been said over and over ad nauseum, but please, put aside your differences about the name, the front office, who's in charge, who's supposed to sing what and when, and just ORGANIZE things for the good of the guys ON THE PITCH.

I sit closer to the road supporters and sometimes (very rarely) they out-sing you guys. Embarrassing, but it's a fact. Please, I ask of you just for once, get it together. Look, I know it’s hard, I know it’s impossible, I know it can’t be done, I know it’s been done. If you need help bridging the gap between you guys and the front office I would gladly volunteer to be your advocate. Just ask. Who do I have to talk to? Point him/her out to me. Let's get this done already.

Despite the name, despite the nonsense in the front office, despite everything and anything you went through, you are there for the guys on the field where it counts. None of you, including myself can control what happens in and out of the front office, but you guys can control what happens at the Cathedral. In essence, THIS is where a supporter group’s focus is supposed to be.

(stepping down from soapbox)

Have to agree with most of what is said here and that was also my first road trip with the supporters.  I had an absolute blast during the game singing but at points I had to shake my head at some of the pettiness that was occurring.  A little bit more organization and "we're all in this together mentality" would engage everyone further and this whole thread would be a moot point.

Speaking of that corner kick, can we finally keep Henry the hell away from them. His delivery has been piss poor of all set pieces recently.

Not to mention our best goalscorer should be in or around the box as much as possible.

I threw together this little cap sheet to see where we're at for 2014 after going through the rules for the cap.  I'm not sure I have all of the contracts exact, especially some of the renewals that just happened.  if anyone has some insight into those feel free to edit.  (Yes I play a lot of Football Manager and Hattrick)

That most certainly would not be her.

Hah!  Well don't I feel like a douche :)  Please accept my most sincere apologies.  I'm a Daltons regular so if I'm not at Legends for a match, I'm there.  Swing in some time when you're in local mode and I'll buy you a beer.

Now back to Sunday!!!!!

My buddy and I are driving out to tailgate before and be in our seats by 4:30 at the latest.  We're leaving midtown (43rd between 9th and 10th) at 12:30 and have three extra seats in the car if anyone wants a ride out.  Feel free to come by and kick the ball around with us before and have some beers.  Also happy to grill up for you but we probably won't have a ton of extra food so that will need to be coordinated beforehand.   We'll be in the back lot behind Five Guys (yellow Xterra that you can't miss) and my name is Ryan.

One. More. Win.  Monumentally stoked for this match.
