Personally, I'm looking forward to the Alvarez-Alvarez matchup in the Sweet 16.

I do think this will be heavily weighed towards recent players, but... we'll see.

The Firmani Region is up first:
5) Birahim Diop vs 12) Andrew Boyens
6) Jaime Moreno vs 11) Alfredo Pacheco
7) Mohammad Khakpour vs 10) Ezra Hendrickson
8) Joselito Vaca vs 9) Matt Knowles

They are ALL terrific matchups, but you have to look vertically, not horizontally.

Awesome.

I remember Birahim Diop's debut. In the first minutes, under absolutely no pressure, and with a good view of the field, he cleared a ball out for the corner, right in front of 101. SOMEONE yelled "FUCK YOU DIOP, THIS ISN'T THE SHIT LEAGUE" and his shoulders slumped visibly.

He's an obscure name, but that in no way should conceal just how badly he sucked.

The 48 player field is way too small. Several other players are being their rightful place to compete. Off the top of my head Chris Unger, Jeff Agoos, Carlos Parra and ofcourse my favorite Ramiro Corrales. As a matter of fact a 128 player field should have been used with all the deserving candidates.

You could come up with a bracket of just Osorio signings:

1) Echeverry
2) Pietravallo
3) Cichero
4) Smith
5) Oduro
6) Boyens
7) Pacheco
8) Rojas
9) Celades
10) Coundoul
11) Johnson
12) Kandji

+80! :D

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

Of, so true, so true. At least Unger scored a goal. Corrales was one of the last cut. Actually, I'm gonna replace Andrew Lewis with Parra.

Sadly, he might lose out his opening matchup to Andy Boyens. People, Boyens is bad. Diop was MUCH, MUCH worse.

how sad is it that Vaca and Khakpour would be hands down starters right now if they were on the team

Sadly, he might lose out his opening matchup to Andy Boyens. People, Boyens is bad. Diop was MUCH, MUCH worse.

Quoted for emphasis.

Everyone needs to remember that Boyens was halfway decent after the all-star break last season, and useful against physical strikers. Diop, on the other hand, was useful only for kindling.
