I don't think the alternative is nothing. The alternative is increased minutes for someone else, whether that be Ivan, Etienne Jr, White, Mines, etc. And while that's not sexy, I'd prefer that and its long-term impact as compared to some shitty band-aid just for the sake of saying they signed someone.

If he beats Ivan out for minutes, something would be very wrong.   If he is good enough to beat the other guys, in a big game when we need it, that's a good thing.   We have a very good diverse portfolio of talent and a best-in-league program for developing the young guys.    Having one old hired gun in the mix is not unusual or wrong, especially if we otherwise would let that spot and $ go unused.

imo, he's gonna end up out for season with a knee injury if we sign him. i'd not be in favor of him, plus he's older. the Nigerian they were looking at would've been ideal, and the team was looking.

I wonder if he would consider a player/coach contract. His experience could help many of the kids.

Rossi's been training with the team for almost a month. I'd pass.

Which tells me they wouldn't sign him if they didn't see quality during that month.

I'm in no way implying I am excited or even happy about him being signed (if that were to happen).  I'm just saying lengthy trials are pretty good indicators of future success (Dilly Duka not withstanding).

I'd hate to see what would have happened if they were NOT prepared...

Not exactly thrilled that they didn't add a meaningful player or at least a depth fullback. That being said, if you had told me in early June that RBNY would exit the transfer window without losing any of Adams, Lawrence, Murillo and with a depth winger added, I would have signed up for it.

good point.  maybe there attacker addition is keeping Murillo while keeping Ivan.

Still was hopeful for Royer or higher level attacking addition.

I'd be ok with Rossi on a SWP contract.

Bradley Wright-Phillips "I prefer it at Red Bull Arena, but it was OK. I could imagine it being good for a baseball crowd.

Looks like none of the other top teams strengthened.

Had Red Bull added a major piece, they would have been clear-cut favorites to come out of the East. Instead the DP slot remains unused, again. Ivan is a total question mark.

There is major pressure now on the serial whiffers (Etienne and Muyl), and Rza. One if them needs to be banging in goals for the team to make a deep run. Otherwise it's going to be the same garbage again with BWP getting shut down in the postseason and none of our other players stepping up.

Abang fills the forward depth need. Only thing I want now is a meaningful add at outside mid. They do that and I'm satisfied for the window.

You could say that for most teams though.

Atlanta is fucked without Martinez.

Portland is fucked without Valeri.

Montreal is fucked without Piatti.

Etc etc

I would say Atlanta could stomach a Martinez loss better than we can stomach a BWP loss.  Without BWP we're left with...Abang(?) as our lone striker.  They still have Almiron and Nagbe providing service to Villalba in their attack.  They probably won't be dropping 4 to 5 a game, but they'd still score a bunch.
