Hard to believe we have so few top players playing in the worlds best leagues. Take out that 17 year old kid for Dortmond and its a pretty bare cupboard.

Not sure how anyone things we are going to get better when none of our players play in a top league or team.

They didn't win the FA Cup. Just wanted to show how dumb MLS fans seem to other soccer fans.

What the fuck are you on about?

I def agree that their own Stadium would do wonders to make/retain fans... Hope it happens soon.

Also hope they are not waiting to build a "big stadium"... Just pull the trigger on a "small stadium" or it will never happen...

I would also be for buying the stadium in Harrision and the rights to that MLS team with a Cosmos rebrand on RB.

Former Metro Related:

This Sunday at 6PM when Cosmos play Jacksonville at home it will be the debut of Tony Meola as head coach (and Jim Rooney as assistant coach) vs. Giovanni Savarese. All three former Metro teammates with Metro and Long Island Rough Riders.

#1276277 MLS in CCL

Posted by onionsack on 02 March 2016 - 04:09 PM

Really? I rather like the parity and competition within MLS. Doing well in a second-rate continental competition (Libertadores is the standard for the Americas) isn't exactly my priority, even if it would, of course, be great if MLS teams were competitive there.

Are you assuming all owners will rush to pour huge amounts of money in salaries and transfer fees to attract world-class talent? A couple of teams might, if that. The current revenue streams won't allow this to happen across the board, so you'd have a couple of teams that do it at most, for owners willing to burn money to win (who may or may not exist).

I'd rather have the current state of the MLS and lose in CCL year after year if the alternative is a top-heavy boring domestic league with 3-4 deep pocket haves vs filler have-nots - even if RB would likely be a part of the haves. In a few years, as spectator interest and TV money continue growing, MLS could consider a significant increase or an outright removal of the salary cap. Jump too early, and it could be a huge mistake.

The salary cap has always been artificially low as a means to suppress workers wages and competition for talent in the workforce. They get away with it because of single entity (every sports team owners dream). Truth is it has nothing to do with "growing the game", MLS owners couldn't care less about such abstract concepts. What they care about is being able to benefit on the ownership of a franchise asset and have built in anti-trust like competitive advantages and reduced costs.

Anyone who thinks MLS truly cares about being one of the best leagues clearly doesn't understand what MLS owners mean by being one of the worlds best leagues. It has nothing to do with on the field success and quality and has everything to do with $$$$$ in their pockets.

Guy has great hair but has sucked at soccer for over a decade. I'm sure he'll be mostly fine in NASL though I can see Cosmos fans getting frustrated with him missing easy shots rather consistently.

Oh please dude, the guy has 81 caps for Greece and been a member of 2 world cups and 2 European Championship squads and scored at a decent clip at Celtic as a winger. But he sucks hard at soccer for a decade, what??!?!

Call me crazy, but I think its possible not to be a dick to someone because they are wearing a different color shirt. Haven't we had opposing fans at el pastor a bunch of times with no problems? We all know how rational and accommodating GSS can be, after all.

The OP wasn't kicked out y GSS for wearing Cosmos T-Shirt. It was the stethoscope around his neck and the hard copy of the Restatement of Torts he was carrying.  #nodoctors #nolawyers

This game was further evidence of how embarrassing third rail is. Both teams' supporters singing all game.

One thing i have always been proud of is they way the Cosmos supporters will always sing despite the score or result, they sang well after the game ended to make sure their players knew we were proud of them. We all know the Third Fail would have left that game by the 6th inning.

Insert excuses below:

Unlike certain Red Bull fans that post here, which shall remain nameless, I don't make excuses. Fair play, the Red Bull's were the better team last night on the balance of play. Decent and even first half and once the PK was awarded Red Bull completely dominated the rest of the match save a brief flurry of shots off the posts.

I have no issues giving credit where credit is due. This may be the clearest path for this franchise to a USOC ever, its unlikely they will ever have to leave RBA to lift the cup.
