This is just a different team at Red Bull Arena (40 of a possible 48 points!). Hoping we show up at home in the playoffs like we do in the regular season.

Even more impressive about yesterday is that Atlanta is far and away the best road team in the league.

As a Barcelona fan, my memory of Tata's year as head coach was him being intimidated by the locker room, insisting on a bad lineup with like 4CMs, failing to beat Simeone's Atlético Madrid on the last day of the season and winning no hardware.

I read him as a soft and too self-impressed relative to his actual quality back then, and he confirmed it yesterday.

In his defense, he most likely was a reason why they were able to recruit Almiron, Martinez and a few others.  Even if his actual coaching is overrated, don't underestimate his importance as someone who good SA players want to play for.

I don't question his coaching or recruiting abilities, but that was a classic dick move on his part in the Armas incident. Spoiled childlike.

I'm becoming further convinced of the fact that, when all is said and done, Armas is going to be a better coach than Marsch.

Marsch's arrogance limited him. Armas seems well-served by his humility/adaptability.

I don't know if Tata is a *great* coach. He's good, with a known name and coached Messi (to no trophies). Great though? Winning regular season games with ATL's roster & resources is not an accomplishment.

as an Ecuador fan, my memory of Tata's time as Argentina head coach was when he lost to Ecuador at home in a World Cup Qualifier for the 1st time in their history. :)

Having a Plan B and using his subs, both to change games and to give guys minutes for when he needs them later in the season (like in the playoffs), are two huge areas in which Armas has clearly been superior.

Did Martino refuse to shake Simeone's hand after all his celebrating after they won La Liga in the Camp Nou?

Yes I think yesterday we finally saw what Armas has been trying to do and what the full potential of this team is. There were times they slowed the game down and times they went ludicrous speed. There were times they got clever with the ball and times they went route 1. There was one passing sequence in particular in the first half where I was certain (and Im sure Atlanta was certain) that we were just going to boot the ball out of trouble. It was in our own left hand side defensive corner and good god there must have been like 5 or 6 lightning fast touches that moved the ball out of immense pressure by Atalanta and all the sudden we had a goal scoring opportunity on the other end.

I was SHOCKED and Im pretty sure Atlantas reaction to that sequence was more than shock.

Can we replicate the perfect mind meld of these styles all the way to MLS Cup. Not likely. Not every game anyway. Theres going to be a few more minor hiccups at the very least. But now we know what the team is capable of and they should be held to that standard.

NYRB twitter has that passing sequence if you want to relive it. It was beautiful.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.
