Cincinnati's offseason acquisitions so far below...

They added one DP. Kubo, but the guy doesn't seem to have scored much in a few years. Can't claim to know much about him.

Medunjanin always played very well against us for Philly but also had a habit of getting eaten alive by our press, he's a very slow and methodical player on the ball.

They added Jurgen Locadia from Brighton as a DP

I think regardless if things somehow break right for this team  in 2020 its at least clear, if it wasnt already, that RBNY have the least capable sporting director in MLS.

Hamlett should be grilled but none of the people that cover this team seem up to that task.

So to be clear, RBNY dropped Brad for "cap space", we didn't do anything with the cap space, and now he's signed with the best team in the history of the league, who are set to most likely run the league again next year.

Great.

But Tom Barlow! Mathias Jorgensen!

Agreed.  But it makes sense because NYRB were waiting for the new Sporting Director.

This is a development year.  Let's enjoy watching the kids.

Development year? Fuck that

#1360703 Kemar sold

Take off your tin foil hats. RBNN is a fan site that probably got a good scoop by asking around and decided to publish it.

To think the team 'planted' this story on their site to try to explain the Kemar sale is absurd. How many people do you think even look at RBNN?

Why not just fire Hamlett and replace him with this guy?

What has Hamlett done that they have to keep paying him a salary?

#1360552 Leo Lopes?

Posted by Grelladinho on 31 January 2020 - 06:54 PM

if you want to be reductionist about it and only view it is a only appreciating asset - see Murillo.
Depends on who else they have and also that they have players who play his position that are on injury and also a player they loaned in from Liverpool.
Also, player has some say in it right.  Can he break into EPL or not a la Sims.  Very tough call but I would think he wants to stay considering he is playing under a manager who knows him.

My thinking is because Hull bought him so cheap, even if he stuck around and didn't pan out they could probably still cut even or make some kind of a profit. English teams will fork over money for young players like him, especially since he's from Portugal.

And if he does well, they can sell him a year or two later for a lot more, like maybe $7-10 million to a top championship or premier league club.

We just drafted a left back in Seagrist and we have Tolkin, that's probably what we will roll with at LB.

It's absolutely insane if they go that route. Neither of those guys have any first team minutes.

Tarek at LB (if Long stays) is also stupid. Why pull him out of position the entire year? Just sign an LB.

Cavani is available. His floor in MLS would be 30 goals a season.

There is a closed door scrimmage tonight that the team says they will provide updates on through Twitter, so I guess we will find out whether or not Lawrence has reported to camp.

#1360059 West Ham bid for Long rejected?

Posted by Grelladinho on 28 January 2020 - 05:59 AM

I understand your point and its a fair one, but I still think the two points are intertwined in the same discussion. At face value, no, of course the team isnt better by selling Long and backfilling him with existing roster players. But, what is really the long term gain of keeping Long, who may now become frustrated/disappointed in his EPL aspirations being roadblocked, on a team that does not have the look of a legitimate contender anyway? You make the point that the team wont reinvest the transfer fee anyway, which is a very legitimate concern, but there is a broader scope to that discussion. The philosophy is not only to attract higher price tag, ready to contribute players, but also youth to build up our pipeline and develop in house.

The long-term gain of keeping Long is that the club is better positioned to win a championship with him on the roster as opposed to him not being on the roster.

As a fan of RBNY -- not West Ham, Leipzig, Salzburg or any other club for that matter -- I want to see RBNY put themselves in the best position to win an MLS Cup, and selling Long to anybody moves them further away from that goal.

I don't see why we as fans should worry about him potentially getting butthurt over not moving to the EPL. That's something Long should think about, not us.

Keep Long until his contract expires, even if he bitches and moans and makes the club look undesirable for other players to come to.

If they sell at any price, Hamlett 100 percent will never fill the gap Long would leave.

Pushing for him to be sold is like asking the club to let him walk for free. You know Red Bull will simply pocket the cash like they did for Adams and Murillo.

Great...another top player for the club to be sold and replaced by RBII scrubs.

#1359648 "There is no Offseason" 2020 Thread

Posted by Grelladinho on 22 January 2020 - 12:07 PM

Exactly. Why do we always have such a hard time making signings? Why do we always hear of signings falling through at the last minute? Other MLS clubs don't seem to have these problems....

Look at DC over the past six months or so.

They know Rooney is leaving, so they bring in Ola Kamara before last season even ends.

Then they make a splashy DP signing in Flores and work out a deal to aquire Gressel.

Why can't Red Bull operate like this?

This fact has done nothing to calm anyone down yet but here it goes:

Red Bulls have not made an international signing at or before this point in the off-season for the last decade. If you've just lost faith in Hamlett/Red Bull that's one story, but don't let the timing alone scare you.

That "fact" means absolutely nothing and demonstrates the incompetence of Red Bull more than anything.

Teams in MLS have been making international signings by the handful at this point. There is no reason and zero excuse for Red Bull not to be doing the same.
