According to this Mo is trying to bring in Andreas Ivanschitz from Salzburg. He's a 22 year old central midfielder who is the captain of the Austrian national team. He just joined Salzburg from Rapid Vienna in January.

For some reason I can't link directly to the article but if you go to that link on the left it says "Artikelsuche." Type in Mo Johnston and the article will come up. It's in german.

Here's a profile on him (in german)

Euphorie trotz Fehlstart bei Red Bull New York

Should be interesting to see how someone from there does in our league. I don't have much faith as I think it's most likely a wash. This dude will most likely want to play for Nurnburg instead and be pissed that he's here.

Pregame pints 15. Ticket to the game 60. Carlsburg, Meatpie and Crisps 16. Seeing an American score on another American at a Premier League match in England; Priceless.

"Euphoria in spite of false start in speech formed provide formed into a ball New York a year after the crack effect in the domestic soccer national league Dietrich Mateschitz and its drinks group speech into a ball also in the "Big Apple" for Soccer-Aufbruchstimmung. It gives formed would suffice parallels with the Austrian sisters-team in speech into a ball New York to that. So like the former Salzburg Austria in the autumn 2005, also the Ex-MetroStars in the spring 2006 started more badly than right into the new season.

How in the Mozartstadt, the spectacular was got into the new head sponsor and name giver also in the east coasts-metropolis with an all around renewal connected, climbed wants to conquer like in Austria also the interest of the US-media at the club jerky on and like with the team of Kurt Jara Mateschitz also with that New York over short or long at least the national supremacy.

While that duel itself Salzburg with Austria Vienna meanwhile around the title, stand formed round in the speech-into an according to ball-overseas-Dependance four lean three draws and a defeat to beech. General manager Alexi Lalas changed stood in the before week totally surprisingly to the former duke-club Los Angeles Galaxy and the Scottish coach Mo Johnston to the past Thursday tightly before the release. Yet of disappointment or quite resignation, one finds form into a ball in the 50 colleagues stationed in New Jersey of the US-speech-no trace.

"The combination New York, speech formed is into a ball and soccer like a sleeping giant. Didi Mateschitz must make here no public working or advertising, comes that of alone", meant that finally heavily under pressure advised however provisionally yet in its office confirmed Johnston before the direction manner away game against Chivas USA in Los Angeles on Saturday. The 42-Jährige, that 1989 as the first Ex-Celtic-players signed and Catholic a contract in the Glasgow Rangers, must reach at least the minimal goal Playoff-quarterfinal.

In the preceding year, it was quaked failed as an Assistenztrainer of Bradley with the at that time MetroStars in just this round, should bring this year not less than 17 new players the success. "We need however another learned defender and a strong midfield player", reported of the 38fache national players that relating to this first contacts with the salt castles received. "I inquired because of Andreas Ivanschitz. That asked me, am whether I crazy", reported Johnston of the reaction.

With the French world champion of 1998, Youri Djorkaeff (38), and the 37-year-old goalkeeper Tony Meola Johnston controls however nevertheless two real Leithammel in its troop yet rather young with an average age by 25 years. Both the world class towers former and the threefold World Cup goalkeeper of the US-team appeared over the engagement of the Salzburg business delighted.

"The media interest is incredibly large. Now we need unconditionally victories", meant Meola and joined ask formed on that about its personal experiences with speech into a ball due thereto: "Previously I knew formed speech into a ball only as a party drink and let the fingers therefrom. But now they mediated us also, needed it like one as an Energydrink." The Djorkaeff extremely badly tempered and easily marred after the Tuesday morning-training meant only: "The season start was not good, but it is yet nothing lost."

In the marketings and Public relation-department, one thought formed meanwhile already of future friendship games between the speeches-into a ball-teams out of Austria and New York. "Yet is does nothing fix, but that would be for the fans of both teams a large thing", said PR-director Matthew Chmura. Also coach Johnston has going on cooperations in mind: "I know here after ten years in America all players. I therewith certainly could help salt castle." The "shopping spree" of that Salzburg in the past months lets the red hairy scot before envy erblassen: "Such quality wants I here also, become we certain master."

This is English? Who's going to the beach?

OK, so can someone tell me if this means we are getting an Austrian midfielder? Don't they have a defender they can part with?

I know we have 2 SI slots open, but what about the junior slots?

I know Mo was offered some Salzburg scrubs before, and he rejected them... I guess they improved their offer.

This guy has captained Austria (and he is just 22) and is their #10. Austrian Footballer of the Year 2003. Of course, Austria lost to Canada at home 2:0.

Herzog jr. maybe ?

Well, he's left-footed and a #10, but he's not the dead-ball striker Herzog was and is much more mobile. He'd be a good pick-up with the potential of being a great, franchise-changing pick-up.

FWIW, I don't see how he, Youri and Guevara could all fit on the field at the same time. If he is signed, Amado will be shown the door.

It depends - are we talking about a stopgap for this year, or someone to take over the role for the next 3 or 4years.

and if he's mobile (AGILE! HOSTILE!), we could see Henderson over to the right and Ivanschitz over to the left for this year anyway.
