When is the draft? Today?

And what picks do we have?

Draft is tomorrow starting at 11am and will only consist of Round 1 and 2.  I'm guessing it will be streamed on the MLS site.  RBNY have the 16th pick in the 1st round and the 8th pick (31st overall) and the 16th pick (39th overall) in the 2nd round.

3rd and 4th rounds will be held via teleconference starting at 2pm on Sunday.

Draft is tomorrow (1/19).

  • 1st round pick #16
  • 2nd round pick #39
  • 3rd round pick (#62) went to Vancouver. (wikipedia says: As of December 21, 2017, the MLS website states that Vancouver acquired this pick from New York as part of a trade completed on August 6, 2015. However, no trade between the clubs was announced at that time.)
  • 4th round we have pick #83 we received from Atlanta for Kyle Reynish and pick #85.

We also have Phillys second round pick for Adam Najem (#31).

The third round pick was likely the rights to Dane Richards back in 2015.

This year's draft class is much deeper than prior years but no player has been deemed phenominal.

Just realized a surprise missing senior: Alex Tejera. He dominates when he plays but didn't play much last year. Curious to see if he ends up pursuing a pro career, or if he is HGP already and hasn't been announced.

This is damning:

You are unlikely to find instant impact in this year's SuperDraft.

The first draft I attended was 2010 with "Sweep The Leg" Tchani, and somehow getting Tim Ream in the second round, and Chris Albright coming over to sit with us a bit.    I recall spending a lot of time following the combine and the various mock drafts beforehand...   it all seems kind of silly now.    I may still drive down, but I have no energy at all around who we may or may not get.   That's a good thing.

The rise of youth academies has caused a sharp decline in the importance of the SuperDraft and I think that will only continue.

at this point we might as well just draft the youngest people available in the draft (regardless of position), stick them in RBII for 2 years, and hope for the best.

I'm gonna go with Graham Smith or Wyatt Omsberg, assuming Tristan Blackmon won't still be on the board.

Last year's class was relatively weak outside the first few picks.

I think you will see a lot of guys stick with MLS and USL affiliates for at least a few years with this group. Rookie of the Year candidates will likely be HGPs. No true standout and nobody dominated the Combine.
