Sampaoli only took over what Bielsa started. Bielsa was the one who cultivated and nurtured Chile's current stars. I don't think Sampaoli is a bad coach but I think the USMNT doesnt just need a coach they need someone whos going to create a system. Like a Bielsa, Tabarez, etc. Otherwise you're going to get the same results and no amount of coaching is going to get you a result vs T&T in Port Au Prince. The system, type of, players and nurturing of said players is whats going to get us over the hump.
Only after you develop this THEN you can think about bringing in the hottest coach of the moment to help push the players even that extra step.
Bielsa would be a great get but he's just been hired by Leeds (?).
Sampaoli used a very similar scheme to Bielsa's at Chile (after the coach between the two of them didn't, and the team underperformed), then helped guide them to two Copa America titles, AND is now considered a relative disappointment, so he might be in range for USMNT. Definitely think he would be better than the US names mentioned in the conversation.
