Tyler Boyd is a free agent, maybe worth a flier.

Maybe worth bringing in on trial. Guy had some flashes of quality but clearly hasn't put together a good full season in his career.

What are the rules around allocation now? Given his national team appearances wouldn't he need to enter via allocation? Or has MLS finally done away with that wonky-ass system?

It's still kicking around, but if you're not on the list, you're not subject to allocation, and he's not on the list.

Gotcha. I think at one point there was a hard criteria that included X number of appearances for the USMNT, that's why I figured he was subject to the rule. Thanks for the update.

Ronald Matarrita is a free agent.  28 years old, has a green card.  Made 9 appearances for Costa Rica last year.  We could use a backup LB.

Worth a look? What is he looking for?

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

Bradley Wright-Phillips "I prefer it at Red Bull Arena, but it was OK. I could imagine it being good for a baseball crowd.

Joao Souza, formerly of NYCFC academy, invited to the combine. Could be Long's eventual replacement

Even more than that, Alan was born when his dad was on the MetroStars.

It might not be a bad idea to bring Alexander Callens to this side of the Hudson.  He could do just as much a Long.  He has a wealth of experience.  I would dare to say that if RedBull were to sign Callens, that it would be an upgrade in that position.

Etienne was guest star on Welcome to Flatch last night all decked out in his Crew gear. For those don't know, show takes place in Ohio. Couple characters are big Crew and FCC fans, merch can be seen throughout show, which is great. Nice to see MLS get some TV show publicity. Anyway, he just signed with ATL couple days ago! Haha, oops. Perfect timing for the episode.

Sounds like the guest spot is a mixed bag. On the one hand there's no such thing as bad publicity. One the other, presenting MLS fandom as an uber-eccentric activity doesn't seem helpful.

Agreed. MLS should do something like a "what's YOUR team?" campaign targeting the regular American sports enthusiast that will name a team they support in each sport, even if only super casual support. Work that bandwagon angle and also unsubtly mock the tired narrative that Americans don't like soccer.

RED. BULL. OUT.

Philly is stacked at midfield. I would like to see if we can get one of their midfielders.

Ideally, i would want jack mcglynn. He is originally from queens and only 19.
