I'm a Yanks fan but the Mets entire world is going to change now that they actually have an owner who will spend.
Good for them because it makes baseball more fun.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

With this so-called World Series going on, the media is talking about all the records that are being set. So exciting. Not. However there is one record that they have been overlooking, and it is more interesting than the ones they are talking about. Namely, first time (I believe) the WS is between two cities that have together just won the NBA and NHL titles. Who cares? No one, but it is interesting imho.
Unless DeBozo interferes:

It seems like a no-brainer that DeB will oppose the deal. DeB cannot run again for mayor in 2021. If he wants to keep the seat warm for one of his supporters then he has to be defensive against corporations. Otherwise progressives in nyc will have a political point to exploit.
Deal is approved. NYC signs off on it. Maybe the Post got it wrong? Getting bad info from its "sources"?

DeB probably thought about opposing it but had no real basis to do that, and the donation of 1.75M covered him from political attacks.

$17.5M payoff to DeBlasio.
Of course, the "payoff to DeBlasio" is fiction.
$17.5 million donation to help small businesses seems like a win-win for everyone. It's less than pocket change for Cohen, who also gets nice PR from the donation. Yes, DeBlasio gets a political benefit, and why shouldn't he? He's mayor of the city and used his leverage to get some help for struggling small businesses. You can be sure that Rudy wouldn't have even thought to try if he was mayor.
Wait to see who gets the money.Of course, the "payoff to DeBlasio" is fiction.

Ever hear of ThriveNYC, run by his wife?
More than $1Billion with no actual accomplishments.
DeBozo has done more than anyone to destroy NYC.
NYC thrived under Rudy & Bloomberg.
Businesses did not struggle or require handouts.
In this instance, he seems to have done something good for the city, unless you're against helping out struggling small business owners and reversing pay cuts imposed on stadium workers by the Wilpons. I get it, you don't like DeBlasio, but it seems kind of weird to criticize him here.
Your last statement is flat out wrong. Businesses did struggle in NYC under both Rudy and Bloomberg, in the aftermath of 9/11. But to blame them for that is as silly as you blaming DeBlasio for businesses struggling in a once in a hundred year pandemic.
