didn't the loan come with a purchase option?
Apparently it did...it's quite possible that:
a.) a small fee was paid and simply not mentioned
b.) NEC was happy to take him off our hands but not willing to pay anything for him, and our new management didn't feel it was worthwhile to play hardball over a small amount of money for a player who's not in our future plans
Maybe the transfer fee was smaller than the total cost of paying the remaining months of his salary once the loan ends. If NEC didn't want to pay it, it would still be worth cancelling the contract so that we're not on the hook for a half-year's salary for a player who basically amounts to a temp.

Official, at least from NEC's side:

I know it's google translate, but what?"The past year was the right time to Victor finally bind to the NEC coach him then to Red Bull New York had been achieved fired and they now have another big name attracted.
I read that as: The time was right for Victor to join NEC because RBNY fired their coach and have another big name player coming in at his position.

Urine, you're out!
Awesome post...I think it went over most folks heads.
Good for him, I think he isn't any good. 5 years from now I believe he'll have played for between 4-6 other teams. No loss in my book.
And for those asking for a small fee, please get some perspective. It's MLS negotiating remember. We got Angel, Henry and Marquez for free when they were under contract. Those guys were worth millions in the market, now guys want $100K for a reserve player? Try not to be Columbus....lol.
The New York Red Bulls previously kicked around Major League Soccer as the MetroStars with limited success. But after transforming under a new banner in 2005, the Red Bulls have become a force to be reckoned with in the Eastern Conference. The club has made leaps of progress since its previous incarnation and now has its focus on bringing the league title to New York.
