Wigan's goal was the direct result of ball watching by Carr.
It wasn't a very beautiful game, as Newcastle's defense looked like swiss cheese at times, but it's 3 points, and a damn fine way to start the season.

Neither side looked like world beaters. After last week's Charity Shield, this match, featuring two sides from the top half of the table, made me feel a little better about MLS.

Boumsong is off of our payroll!
Woohoo!
Ex-Ranger Boumsong heads to Juve for 3.3 million pounds????? Rangers made a lot of money off Bum's deal. Did Newcastle make any money off him? I guess they are just happy he is gone. I remember 3 big time gaffs last year made by Boumsoung. I'm sure there were a lot more.

UEFA Cup Qualifying
Newcastle v FK Ventspils
This one will be on Setanta at 6:00 AM PST:
Sunday, 27 August 2006
Barclays Premiership
Aston Villa v Newcastle
I do not have Setanta, and after watching the Galaxy away game down in Hermosa Beach Saturday night, I doubt that I'm getting up early to go to an English pub to watch it.

Fortunately, it's not that bad. With the weekend's break for International play, he should be back for the next game against Fulham.

Boro is also gonna pick up ex-Magpie Johnathon Woodgate. Nice to see that your career move to Madrid did wonders for you there, Woody.
And Egyptian international Wael Gomma is on trial for Newcastle. He's listed as a central defender and we could use help there.

Manchester United have loaned Italian youngster Giuseppe Rossi to Newcastle.
The Magpies, stricken by injury to Michael Owen as well as the retirement of Alan Shearer, have borrowed the 19-year-old, who originally hails from New Jersey but has so far chosen to represent the country of his parents.
Newcastle have agreed terms with the Premiership leaders to take Rossi on loan until 1 January 2007.
The Italian striker will link up with the Magpies immediately and, according to Sir Alex Ferguson, will gain some invaluable first team experience.
'It was a big decision for us especially as we don't have the choice of strikers,' admitted the United boss.
'But this is something that Giuseppe wanted as he needs regular first team football.
'When he returns he will be a more experienced player who will be able to offer us much more.'

He's going to suffer a career ending injury within two months.
It will serve the bastard right for picking Italy over the USA.
But until then, I hope he scores a lot of goals for the toon.

Doesn't that kid know that Newcastle is the kiss of death for a striker?
He's going to suffer a career ending injury within two months.
It will serve the bastard right for picking Italy over the USA.
But until then, I hope he scores a lot of goals for the toon.
My sentiments are the same. I suppose I could see the logic in all this: Newcastle need a striker, Rossi needs playing time, so it works out.
