Also not sure what "sanctioned" entails in this case, but he has been sanctioned by the DEA

"Marquez is a former Barcelona and New York Red Bulls star"

I must have missed him playing like a star here.

Do they have prison leagues? I wonder if they have defenders that are on his level...

Maybe not defenders, but I heard a story once about a pitcher getting developed in California...

Considering how powerful and  ruthless these cartels are, and the fact that neither the police or military can control them, maybe Marquez had no choice when he was approached by them.

Sometimes those guys are forced to comply. Do it or lose your kicking foot? Or family?

Has he made any comment yet ???

As much fun as it is to give the guy shit this is a very fair point. Mexico is in many ways de facto run by the cartels with the government basically being impotent.

Explained at the end of the article: any US assets are frozen (& probably subject to forfeiture) and no US citizens can do business with him.
10 months too late. He should have been banned from Columbus & not scored in the hex.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

Depends on when and how contact was made. Someone living in Spain & NY is distant enough from the cartels, that he can avoid them. Eventually we should learn when this contact began, and whether he started as a high-profile customer who became more involved, or was a willing participant for years or decades.
I'm unsympathetic in either case. Anyone involved with the cartels in any way is a POS. This just cements my opinion.
