Atlanta is the team I've always been scared of most.  In tight playoff games, superior offensive talent can mean a lot and they have 2 amazing players.  Tyler should mean a lot here in terms of staying with Almiron.  He's one of the few who can more than match Almiron's speed with the ball.

Have to feel good if we end up with any type of draw because we will be really tough to beat at home.  Hoping we win because we are just as talented as Portland and KC.  And a home game final would be absolutely amazing.

Treating this as a final is incredibly stupid. KC is a strong team, and if Portland beats them, that means they have a few effective answers to pressing.

I don't think it's that stupid or far off from the reality.

Both Red Bulls and Atlanta are lights out at home. Portland is pretty bad on the road and are inconsistent, and I think KC is a bit of a poser team. They are well-coached but their biggest goal threat is Salloi. I just don't see KC and their offense overcoming either Red Bulls or Atlanta on the road. They have beaten up on some shitty teams in the west but this is different. Who poses a bigger goal threat -- Martinez/Almiron/Gressel or Salloi/Russell/Rubio? It's obvious who is better.

Kind of agree...  KC is an effort team that will bust their asses and that's good enough to beat a lot of teams in the West.  The problem with that against a team like us is that we do the high-effort thing as good as or better than KC.  Then just add that we have more talent.  I think KC beats Portland, and I think KC would beat a team like Atlanta.  But I don't think they would beat us.

What I am saying is that the two best teams are meeting before the true final. That doesn't mean KC is a pushover.

In a two game series  the lesser team can still prevail, but it is harder. When it is a single game, it only takes one strange bounce of the ball or a BS penalty or red card to alter the outcome.

But the winner of RBNY vs Atl gets home field for the final. That is important.

lose 2-1 there and win 2-0 here.

Away goals and clean sheets, the keys to advancing in 2-legged playoff series.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

the remaining teams worried me less than Cbus did. and Cbus is out, thus i'm more than confident.

Even the SportsBooks have Atlanta favored to go through.  I know that we were successful against them in the regular season but I'm damn scared of them.  Almiron and Martinez are better than anyone we have offensively.

Every game is a final. Can't worry about the West team when we have a historically good MLS team in Atlanta to get through first.

I have absolutely no fear of Atlanta.  We have their number completely and I don't expect Tata to know how to come up with a new plan.

I am not scared, but that doesn't mean i am not nervous, because I have 23 years of pent up pain to cloud my rational appraisal.

But it is 11 v 11. Our attack is not toothless and I would argue we have the best D in the game. We have shown we can not only hang, but match with them. The near term break could actually favor us by giving Royer more time to heal and giving BWP fresh legs.

But it will be a dogfight and either side could take it.

Atlanta did show in their last match to us that they have a petulant, "this is ours" mentality that could haunt them if they fall behind. Let's frustrate the hell out of them.

https://www.mlssocce...ill-win-mls-cup well hopefully this doesn't come back and make him look stupid. I like that the guys are confident but there's really no reason to give anyone any extra motivation by saying something you don't need to say.

This is a popular misconception about gambling: odds aren't based on who the bookies think will win, they are designed to get an even amount bet on both outcomes so the house wins.

But in pressure situations Martinez is highly immature and gets rattled easily. He's the kind of player that will throw a temper tantrum when things don't go his way, rather than play his way out of it.

Tata Martino is also thin-skinned. He's a pushover.

Also not convinced Almiron is completely fit or in peak form. He'll be entering the series having played only one and a half games in about the past two months.

On paper Atlanta is talented but they lack a fighting spirit and the mental toughness to put them over the edge.

If you want a guaranteed way to get under his skin, the TIFO for our home game should just be an enlarged version of this:
