G's keep their main defender for a bit longer, even if he's less good than last year, and could get something in return once he leaves.
Gonzo gets secure xi spot and playing time till the World Cup and lots of $ more, still can go if a good offer/opportunity comes up.
MLS and LA will have another player at the World Cup, they can call their own.
Lampard was very close, but fell trough at the very end.
Dos Santos was worth a try, but didn't want to come.
Dempsey was considered to it seems
The rest probably was more agents talking up their players than being the truth.
The bigger ones probably don't want to move pre World Cup anyways
Anyway I'm probably one of the few who doesn't think it's necessary to have 3 DPs at all costs, barring very few exceptions a good and deep team is always better than a medicore team with a name
This move, even or specifically if it's short termish, just makes sense currently.

I think it's a step in the right direction for both the league and the G's, if Omar is signed as the team's third DP.
Sure it'd be nice to sign a Drogba or Lampard, but much like Ben pointed out, none of these type of players are going to risk their WC spot with a move to MLS.
The next major DP signing won't come until summer. Once the Dos Santos pursuit failed, I realized and accepted that.
Besides, the league has shipped off too many rising stars to the backwaters of european soccer where most of them have struggled for playing time or have wasted away on the bench.
Omar as a DP. I'm down with this...

Thank you. Ingollstadt sure ruined the shit out of Buddle, didn't they?
This is very good news, today.

Well, Donovan would like to finish his career in LA, but looks like it is a money issue:
Obviously as you get older, you only have so many more opportunities to do things you want to do. Financially, things come into play.

CBA is up this year, and I believe we will see the MLS rules gearing up for post WC player purchases. I for one will not be surprised if we see it go to 5 DPs per team, or at least a 3+ DP exception for USMNT players to come to MLS, etc
IMO, the signing of Omar and LD confirm this . . . as we all know the Galaxy still need to make a few splash signings. One, i think the TWCable deal will require a huge latino market signing (Kaka? Chicharito?) and keep in mind Lampard only signed a one year deal with Chelsea. Additionally, Samuel Eto (sp?) is also only on a one year contract.
Next summer should be interesting . . . first the World Cup, then DP signings.
