Maybe it's no longer a Galaxyesue economy so I decided to start a new thread. Join in all you job offerers! Lift up your boot straps downtrodden proletariat! Bring your shovel forth!!!!
My company has a couple of openings. Not that I want to work with any of you schlubs but I can hold my nose.
#1 is definite-gonna-hire-in-the-next-two-weeks gig. Network Ops technician, monitoring outbound satellite transmission and remote receivers, IP multicast traffic, live special events, blah, blah, blah. Developer types need not apply unless you're desperate. Need to know the usual stuff at grunt level (Windows, basic networking, SNMP, remote control apps like pcanywhere, VNC, etc). Satellite transmission stuff can be learned on the fly but some knowledge is helpful. Pay is around $40k. Hours are swing, possibly overnights and include weekends.
#2 is higher level, involves oversight of encoding ops for VOD distribution with adherence to CableLabs specs. Strong familiarity with muxing equipment and MPEG2 and H264 encoding software/hardware including Harmonic, Digital Rapids, Omneon, Tandberg.
I'm an A+/MCP Desktop Support Technician. I'm available for hire.

Speaking of certifications...I'm an A+/MCP Desktop Support Technician.
What certifications does everyone think are really worthwhile?
My brother in law has a few Microsoft certifications, but since he has no prior work experience, he still can't get a job. I don't know if he's just not trying very hard, or that certifications just don't mean much. I do know that there are plenty of computer jobs here in Charlotte, and that if he was really qualified and really trying, he'd be able to find something.
Personally, I'm a certified Project Management Professional (PMP), which on the West coast, was definitely worth it, but no one really seems to give a shit about it here, and I'm debating whether or not I should bother with the trouble and expense of staying certified.

The gig would be mostly afternoons/evenings with probably at least one evening on the weekend. There's shared on-call duties. Depending on exp, pay would probably be anywhere from 60-75k. I'm not the one hiring but my boss has asked me to ask around.

Any entry level positions? My company, my department, is looking for someone with satellite/cable RF, and/or IPTV engineering experience. Service acquisition, distribution/routing, encoding, encryption, etc, etc. We're in Burbank and there's little or no travel. We especially want someone in the Valley who can get on site quickly in emergencies. If some or all of this is up your alley or you know someone who might be interested, hit me up.
