He was really bossing the midfield last night, constantly being involved, constantly giving instructions.

I saw AJ do the same on the defensive side. He did bail out Duni on a lost ball in the defensive 3rd.

I also saw AJ boss Becks a bit. I believe it was on a couple of throw ins.

Ah the beautiful game, so cruel. Is it really Landon? I guess it must be. "Once a Toffee always a Toffee." Well fuck you Landon! That first half was indeed the best we've seen all year from this team. On the third SJ goal, I thought Gaul could have done bettter. But what is done is done. The night went from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows. I'd like to see Chad or whoever is up at strike put a bit more pressure on those defenders when they get lazy with a pass out of the back. Pressure Pressure Pressure. Buddle can hold the ball but he is definitely still lacking pace this year. This was one was a tough one to take in. Another tough test is just two days away. G's at Houston. Fucking shit someone close this thread and start the new one!

I know the tv doesn't follow David's every move as much as they used to, but his "losing his mind" isn't why I called him a captain. He was really bossing the midfield last night, constantly being involved, constantly giving instructions. His drops to the defense aren't as annoying, when they're followed by a quick trek back to his position. There are advantages to watching a game live, and this type of performance is one of them.

Okay maybe, but he needs to lead by example more often and not get in every opposing player's face for any damn reason. At one point, the team needed a calming influence when SJ was pressing... and he was pushing Marvin Chavez' head...

He played well, but he didn't lead the team. There's a huge difference and you are well aware of this.

But yeah.... new thread...

When you look at leadership you don't look at what the player does, you look at the effect he has. Did the team remain calm? Did the team play out the game? Did the team ignore the poor refereeing and concentrate on a game they had in their hands? No. If Beckham was the leader in this situation, it goes down as an epic fail. Next leader please!

Who else is it going to be? Duni? Because everyone else either a) is too young to lead or b) can't speak English very well. I'm all for giving Todd a chance with the armband, but beyond him & Becks I don't see too many more options...

It's a very unique talent, to be able to fire the team up when it needs it, press when the team needs it, stay cool under pressure when the team needs it, etc. You're absolutely right, a good leader on the field will influence the players around him to do likewise. Beckham can be a great motivator and can inspire others, but he is too much at the mercy of his emotions to truly lead the team consistently. I think he's at his best when he plays alongside a strong captain.

That being said, I liked the way he played. I'd rather have him hustling, playing defense, and getting in other player's face. Natalie says he looks like a thug right now but I dig it.

Pure speculation, maybe unfounded. How much of an influence does AEG have in the locker room? For example, Bruce seems to have a tough exterior, but how much control does he have? Do you think he would continue to trot out Donovan if he had total control over the situation? I wonder if the frustration that is growing has to do with Baby Jesus (HA! Mean nicknames from the past!) sleep walking through games and the rest of the guys knowing there isn't anything Bruce or anyone else can do about it.

Sadly, I also believe Bruce has a very heavy stubborn streak in him, and he is very opposed to daring changes. His constant changes in the center back spot have more to do with circumstance. Being a goalkeeper, I really think he builds from the back up, so this situation is probably foremost on his mind. Jimenez probably played because Donovan wasn't there, but once he comes back, expect to see much less of Jimenez. Don't be surprised if Jimenez ends up being an ex-G that kicks our asses if Bruce could find a way to trade him for a center back. Hope I'm wrong.

It is time for the Gs to get something for Donovan. If they are asking for more than what Everton is asking, then we will be stuck with this problem all season long, and maybe longer.

By the way, did you see the number of Korean's that came out? Ji Sung Park, baby.

I actually think we saw the beginnings of it in Franklin and AJ. Franklin stepped in a pulled Beckham aside. He certainly led by example. AJ also talked continuously with Gaul during the times I saw them on the screen together. Duni was his usual self, supporting Magee and Juni. But Duni, AJ and Franklin are not big enough names to influence a guy like Beckham. If Beckham isn't going to embody all the qualities of leadership the team needs, he needs a player like LD who showed the willingness to call him out and enough game to back it up.

LD made it pretty clear in his comments that he no longer wants to be that player. If I'm Bruce, as much as I hate to say it, I talk with AEG about finding LD another place to play, unless he wants to be the man in LA. That's the part he's being paid to play.

No you didn't.

Anyway. I wish it was 1986 because I would totally put out a scathing fanzine that puts the team in its place. No I wouldn't.

So, is someone going to start a threat for the Smurfs l'Orange game?

After all, tomorrow is another hideous, nightmarish, soul-sodomizing train wreck of a day.
