Struggling with all the love for the supposed genius, insider-knowledge wheeling and dealing.    Stolz fell in our laps, they wasted our second draft pick, the Monreal trade was hardly a steal (after we failed to tie Oyongo into a long term deal) and Sacha was the only guy available.    LA went for the 3 spot, we grabbed the one, and not  cheap.    Hardly anything to be impressed with, and Cahill is still in up the air.

outisde of central midfield our roster still looks like butt.

even if he had a grand team building plan i fail to see why firing petke was a necessary part of it.

and sadly it seems that within a couple months people will forget they wanted red bull out in the first place.

If they win, most people will forget.  Otherwise it'll only get worse for them.

Agreed, I think they're making pretty good moves, but I still see no reason why they couldn't have kept Petke.

I get the petke love, but also think the article makes good points about how Petke might have been in  over his head in terms fo remaking the team.  The fact is that Petke was hired w little experience.  We know little about what kind of support he was getting from Fraser et al.  We saw the passion and emotion.  In interviews we say a guy that had difficulty communicating.  Is it not possible that he was similarly challenged when communicating with his players?

He's made okay moves. Too bad the only thing that will save him is bringing in Ronaldo or Messi. He's a turd burglar as far as I'm concerned.

I'm pretty sure not even that would do it for many people

Not hypnotizing a guy to make him forget his desire to go to Europe is a failure? I've tried to tell people before this that Oyongo planned to go to Europe. This regime knew that, coach and sporting director. The LAST regime knew that, coach and sporting director. Roxburgh, Petke, Curtis, Marsch, Ricardo, every single person remotely connected to the front office knew that. Petke admitted as much. How would that be a failure on the part of any of theirs?

Backe's first season was pretty similar to Petke's in terms of winning percentage (we played less games).

Who was Petke going to leverage this year?  Henry and Fraser are gone.  I know everyone thinks Red Bull is the reason Fraser is gone (and they're probably right with their 1 year offer), but what if Fraser left because he was tired of carrying Petke?  Petke was fires AFTER Fraser decided not to stay on.  Maybe Fraser stays and Red Bull lets Mike stay.

Backe also had to contend with Marqua.

Someone commented on here the other day that Miazga was unhappy with the level of training he was receiving with the first team.  Everyone one assumes all the players had Petke's back, but maybe not.

Sometimes it is good to play the role of the contrarian. Other times, you just look like a damn fool that knows nothing of what they're talking about. These fall in the category of "other times."
