Perhaps "need to" would convey less urgency.

I still think it is a high level of urgency and it is a must win. It would be a huge red flag if we dont finish first. They should be able to beat guys who are amateurs, if not, how are we supposed to be competitive when we face more professional players.

The must wins are in the knockout phase.
We could win each group game 10-0, but unless we get to the final we are not going to the Olympics.
And the SFs, to qualify for the U-20 World Cup.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

But your not getting into any final or anywhere if you underestimate your opponent.

This is not about mathematics. Its establishing a culture. That has been the biggest issue with the usmnt program. They feel entitled to win without playing the game. Then when they lose, they blame the conditions or refs...ect

They need to take care of business. Expectation is for them to win group and qualify to Olympics. Now they have to achieve that.

I don't think that is really true.  The U20s have won the last two U20 qualifying games.  I do not think the USMNT has much of a record of doing that either.  Obviously they lost in T&T in 2017 but that was five years ago and I can't think or any other prominent examples of the team doing that.  Sometimes the USMNT loses tough qualifiers in Central America, but so does Mexico and so would basically any team in the world.

Unfortunately it is true. The last usmnt Olympic team was the 2008 squad. If this team chokes like the previous squads, that would be 4 cycles that we did not qualify. That is insane and unacceptable.
