Bilyeu was the player they targeted in that draft, but don't forget that they tried to move up in the draft so he wasn't the guy they REALLY wanted.  "Flexibility and defensive depth" are the only words Marsch used to describe him and honestly if those are the only traits that stood out (good traits mind you, no ill will toward the guy) it simply isn't enough in MLS these days.  Not with the academies coming through.

For picks that are further down the draft I think you have to find guys that do ONE thing really well.  Not a lot of things just okay.  Ream is a really good passer.  Lade has the heart of a lion.  Muyl will run through a wall.  Lewis runs FAST.  I think you need to pick guys like this late in the draft and hope that they improve other aspects of their game to make some sort of contribution.  Doesn't have to be a HUGE contribution, but something is better than nothing.

Skimmed through he MlS 2016 Draft and no one really has made but a handful (Jack Harrison and maybe Rosenberry. The Draft is really a crapshoot after the top three picks.

Completely agree.  Which is why I'd rather them pick up a guy REALLY good at one thing and hope it all comes together somehow.  IMO that's a better gamble than picking a "depth guy" who's just okay at a bunch of things.

That's pretty much what they did with Zeiko, right? Speed freak who needs refinement just about everywhere else?

Yup really liked what they did there.  Got a guy who's outstanding at one thing in particular.  Maybe TWO given the stones he showed during his acceptance speech ;)

Bilyeu signed with Rio Grande Valley Toros in the USL at 1pm this afternoon and played the full 90 during the 3pm 3-3 draw vs. Vancouver 2.

Keep in mind Bilyeu is essentially a Houston Dynamo reserve player now. Rio Grande, though independently owned and operated is under Houston Dynamo for all player and coach decisions. Similar to AAA baseball. Likely what will happen with the Red Bulls II in the future given the lack of attendance vs. high cost to operate.

They actually have a pretty nice stadium, too.
