too finesse of a player, last i recall. if he's toughened up 1000x since playing in England and is willing to lower his salary demand from near $2m to 650k, go for it. that's the biggest hold up in my eyes, considering that RB HQ ain't gonna foot the bill for any salary that's more than BWP or Royer's.

Actually completely agree.  I think the most successful CB's in this league are the more physical guys.  Passers out of the back just don't matter as much, yet.

Also haven't watched him regularly enough to know whether or not he's added the necessary physicality to be a top CB in MLS, but it's extremely important.

Plus, philosophically I'd always use my DP spots farther up the field. Just think you can get solid CB play for less than you can get solid play up front.

we all can appreciate passers out of the back, in this league, too few and far between, or you have to overpay for it.

for me, philosophically. prefer DPs/TAM to be CBs rather than CDMs. but prefer CAMs/wingers/strikers to be 1st choice for TAM/DP slots over CBs. hence my non-issue for dealing dax and his 500k salary away, but willingness to accept collin's return, even if it meant paying him north of 500k (which we didn't it seems).

example:

--------------DP---------TAM-----------

-------------TAM---------DP------------

-------------200k--------350k-----------

-150k------TAM---------DP------100k

--------------------250k------------------

He's been a starter in The Championship, a more physical league than the EPL, for awhile now so I expect he'd be ok here.  Unlikely to get paid by RB though.

That's what Arena has always done. If you over spend on your CB's you get afford the skill players you want.

That implies Arena has some sort of constraint on how much he can spend.    Teams rarely do it, but I would enthusiastically spend for a stud CB.    I think its ridiculous to need two holding mids in front of a back four.    Get me a guy like Olave in his prime,  or better, and he's worth whatever you pay him.

Look at soccer all over the world and tell me which team plays with one one deep midfielder nowadays. The days of the 4-4-2 being the predominant formation are gone. They may not all have 2 holding mids but they may have 2 deeper lying players and most teams play with 3 in the middle. There's not many dudes like Kante out there.

Think the bigger cause for playing with two holding mids, is the shortage of really good defenders now, so teams then try to provide additional protection for them.  Every time I watch Liverpool defend it looks like a Sunday league game.

Still think this guy has a super high ceiling if he can stay healthy. We haven't had a CB as good on the ball since Ream, he'd fit in really well at the LCB spot in this new formation.

Hell yeah, great news.

If you scan YouTube looking for Bradley Wright-Phillips, youll find numerous goal compilations, a few interviews and, eventually, an excerpt from the grime mixtape series Lord of the Mics.

since he can't play for the 1st team, his only other option is to get matches with RB2. i'm fine with that. rehab starts, plus RB2 could use a veteran defender. also, before coming here, Baah played quite a bit at LB.

The 2s will be tough to beat in the playoffs.  Roster starting to appear pretty loaded.

Good for Baah.  Appears as though we'll stick with him next year.

or at least we'll get a better look at him and see if he's worth keeping over the winter.

yeah, his contract/salary cap hit is basically identical to Zubar's, so not inexpensive
