This puts a damper on my enthusiasm, I thought john was a Golden Boot candidate, I hope this doesn't fall through.

Well this is a depressing way to start the day.

I'd really like to hear more details, though, before I put any blame the FO.

Wasn't everything we heard about him outa the preseason camp was that while he was technically sound he was still woefully out of shape? A professional soccer player that is still winded as much as he was described to be after a half of soccer and the start of pre-season was not filling me with happy thoughts. I'd think that Mr. Johns thought more of his worth than did DLC and Frankie

Goff is guessing the issue is over the number of guaranteed years John wants, which makes a lot of sense. Would you commit long-term to a guy who has been all over the place over the last couple of years? He's not exactly a lock. Tough call, whatever the talent.

Wonder if he was looking for more or less years in the contract? From what we've been hearing, Frank and Co. may be looking for more then 1 year from him, for him to show a real commitment and willingness to stick around to the team.. OR were they looking for a one year deal and John was looking for more? If I'm John at this point, I take what I can get. He's had issue with his form, and character questions have come into question.....so take the contract, prove to everyone you still have the skill and determination to play at a high level, and then take your payday after that.

This isn't too big of a surprise. Hopefully it will be resolved so that both the Club and John will be happy, and we will not have another quarter-million dollar albatross on our roster, or another bedrossian. We need somone up top who is techincally proficient as well as fit and able to fit the system of the new coach. If John can't abide, then so be it. We will get on without him.

Where in the world is Collins John going to get multiple guaranteed contract years, exactly?

I have to think this is merely negotiation tactics.

Given his discipline issues, aside from fitness issues, I'm inclined to think this isn't a "the FO screwed up" issue.
Having a good preseason camp can't put anyone, nevermind someone with his baggage, in position to go continent hopping to bigger and better things.
I can see him wanting a one year deal to re-prove himself and go back to Europe for bigger bucks. But a cursory glance at MLS tells one that this isn't how this league operates. You sign on for a couple, and if you do get offers after one good season then the team that took the chance on you gets something for their rolling the dice on you.

Hope Liam's right.

I think this is good news.

Obviously Frank and DLC feel as though he is not worth what he is asking and that we have enough tallent to win games without him. Or he has the baggage that was mentioned earlier and they feel he is just not worth the headache.

The worst case would be if the FO did not want the guy, but felt like they HAD to have him.

So for me, I am happy to see the FO pass on him if that really is the case.
