I went to one game in their section last year and it was louder than the south ward.
Don't doubt it at all...I know this will piss off some people here...but a lot of high school soccer games have sections louder than the SW these days.

The problem (as has been the case for awhile now) is simple: think of the SW as a cover band with a singer, a guitarist and a drummer. The singer decides to do "I wanna be sedated" by the Ramones. The guitarist decides to play "Free Will" by Rush. And the drummer decides to play "Myage" by The Descendents. All at the same time.Don't doubt it at all...I know this will piss off some people here...but a lot of high school soccer games have sections louder than the SW these days.

That is all very true. I think there's more to it as well. The drummer is doing everything he can to keep the band together and put on solid cohesive show. He's given up on 95% of his material (all the cool deep cuts) in an effort to build group unity.
The lead singer doesn't even want there to be a band. Just his name on the tickets and T-shirts. He throws temper tantrums and will do whatever he can to sabotage his band mates. It is all about him and his hardcore rock-and-roller fantasy.
The lead guitarist is just too busy getting wasted all the time and is rather irrelevant.
And what kind of power trio is this without a bass player? Unless it's something like The Police where our lead singer also plays bass.
Anyways solid metaphor.
Even though the SW sounds good on TV, and not bad at the stadium, I've noticed on videos posted on-line from within it, that a lot of people aren't actually singing!
One of the great pleasures of 101 at GS was that, even though we were few in number, there was a high degree of audience participation. All in for the Metro!
There are close to 1,400 seats the SW. 15 rows of 29 seats (= 435 x 2) in 133 & 102, and 17 rows of 31 (= 527) in 101.
I would prefer that each be filled by someone who wants to bring the ruckus for the full 90.
We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

Trickle down effect from American In-laws. For them being in the supporters section is not about singing and pushing on the team. It's about Cosplay, getting wasted, posting pics on Facebook, and the holy grail would be a live TV shot! It's a little different now.
Never thought I'd see you critical of getting wasted!

Haha I am always in favor of having a good time, but when it interferes with one's ability to perform I start asking questions.

There's a reason the group sounds best in the biggest games. The most devoted and passionate always show up when it counts. Lot of games on the schedule... and as the group as gotten older, more have other obligations. Hard to get the band back together more than just a few times a year.
With that said, seems like ESC has gotten a bunch of new / young faces. Maybe some spill over from sour experience in Viking Land

The group I was being tough on was not ESC but those mired in Viking Land. I am quite biased.

Wasn't saying you were... I sort of went on a tangent. Vikings may be well traveled, but never landed on these boards. I don't visit as often as I used to, but pleasantly happy it's stayed rather inclusive.
