#1442581 Do we have a forward?

Posted by Arsenal14 on 14 February 2024 - 06:03 PM

That's what I get for throwing out an obviously awful suggestion, I guess.

Przyzblko sucks, guys.  I've watched him in person like a dozen times in the last 2 years.  He can't run, he can't finish, he's mid at best in the air despite his height, and he makes like $1 million a year.

Serge fell into the unfortunate "Caden Clark" trap of scoring a few goals in his first few games as a pro without really any other pro-level qualities. Hype train launches out of the station without having any way of knowing what kind of player we have. And now with the extended injury layoff, that's even more true.

Yeah, Ngoma has played 172 minutes between MLS and USL since October 2021.

If he does literally anything, it's a bonus.  Expectations for him (and frankly, any other teenager we have) should basically be zero.

I dont think finishing was as big of an issue. Chance creation was our issue we took a lot of hard shots and didnt score we would be better served creating some better chances

They underperformed xG by 10.  Finishing was very much an issue.

He put his head down right at the start of his run-up, enabling the gk to make a move without worrying about the shooter seeing the move. Right-footers shoot 75% to the left, and vice versa with lefty shooters. So gk made the high percentage move.

Those percentages are way too high.

A study from 2011 showed that players go to their natural side (ie - right-footed to the left, left-footed to the right) about 44% of the time, non-natural 41%, down the middle 15%.

I'm feeling this.

I think Benzema would garner that reaction, I'm not sure Giroud would.

And I say that as a long-time Giroud stan.

I watched a lot of this dude when he played at Bremen.

He fucking suuuuucks.  Hard pass.

So there is some turmoil in the saudi league.

Guys like Firmino, benzema and Henderson are looking to leave. They are having a hard time adjusting to life there.

What a totally unforeseeable outcome.  I'm shocked, I tell you.

Firmino would be an outrageous player in MLS.

I've also seen rumors of Coutinho wanting to get out of his loan in Qatar and come to MLS - that one feels like a poisoned chalice.

If he has a strong showing at the Olympics, his stock will rise and we'd get a higher offer for him. Young, left footed, and multiple years of first team experience. A strong Olympic showing would bump up his valuation by a few million at least.

Has any player ever gotten a bigger transfer following a good showing at the Olympics?

With how good modern scouting networks are, the World Cup barely drives that kind of bump anymore. I don't think the Olympics would have any impact at all.

#1441057 Luquinhas back to Brazil

Posted by Arsenal14 on 05 January 2024 - 08:25 PM

For whatever reason, klimala, Vanzeir and even Luq were not able to translate their past success in lesser leagues to MLS.

Klimala's only double-digit goal season was in the Polish second division.  He was a terrible signing from every angle.

#1440802 Striker is still the biggest need

Posted by Arsenal14 on 29 December 2023 - 01:11 AM

At this point, the team should move on.

By doing what?  Cutting him?  Selling him to...who, exactly?

Man's under contract until December 2026.  They're not "moving on" from him.  They can't.

Also, despite the rest of what you said, he had the best goalscoring ratio of anyone on the team.

Bring a proven goalscorer from a top league. Will not be optimistic until that happens.

Not that I think we'll do that anyway, but we definitely won't in the winter.

If they're still any good, no respectable team will let a goalscorer go in the middle of the season.

If their team is willing to let them go, I don't want them.

#1440244 Barlow traded!

The delay in announcing could be on the Chicago end.

They just announced a new Chief Marketing Officer today.

His first task is to successfully spin the Barlow signing.  Understandably, it's going to take some time.

Name, G, SOT, SOT%, Conversion %

White, 15, 44, 46.32%, 34.09%,

Muktar, 15, 49, 41.88%, 30.61%,

Cucho, 16, 58, 35.15%, 27.59%,

Giak,    17, 31, 46.97%, 54.84%,

Acosta, 17, 40, 48.19%, 42.50%,

Bouanga, 20, 54, 39.42%, 37.04%,

Omir,       6, 17, 42.5%, 35.29%

Based on the percentages, he has the potential to score 15 goals per season. Omir is very good at getting his shots on target and does a very good job at converting those SOT to goals. He needed to play closer to goal to increase the volume of shots but the NYRB coaching staff did not value a forward's shooting ability.

Ah, ok.

The stats you're citing include his two penalty kick goals.

Discounting those, he was 100th in the league in percentage of shot attempts on target and 164th in goals per shot on target.

His numbers are basically identical to Jared Stroud - neither has a Golden Boot in their future.

Between this and the proposed offside changes, both of which are meant to stimulate attacking play, you'll see a massive increase in the amount of teams that just sit back and defend in numbers.

They're both terrible ideas that seek to fix problems that don't actually exist.
