Ducks took 5 in the 2nd day of the draft
D Matt Clark, GT Igor Bobkov, D Sami Vatanen, RW Radoslav Illo and D Scott Valentine
Far more important news....
heeeeeeee's baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!
Teemu alerted Bob Murray today that he's staying on. So our top two lines are looking like this in attack
Ryan-Getzlaf-Perry
Lupul-???-Selanne
Free Agency starts in 3 1/2 days and we'll be looking to move Giggy, clear up some more cap space and sign a free agent Center to command the 2nd line. ...God damn I'm excited for October. I'd like Henrik Sedin to lead the 2nd line, but those two brothers are so god damn bat shit crazy there is no way we're gonna get Henrik, and we don't need another LW. And lets forget about all the money they both want. Now Bob did say he wanted a "Big name" to fill that spot. As mentioned earlier on here Vincent Lecavalier would work out nice and purty like. Will be sad to see Giggy go (which i think is inevitable at this point, perhaps to Toronto) but if I can get a big name Center in exchange out of it...I think it'll help me sleep at night.
The word around was that Scotts willingness to skate again is what helped facilitate the Prongs deal but according to Bob Murray (my new man crush) Prongs was gone regardless. The teams willingness to get younger and cheaper would've had to spell the end to Scotty or Prongs...and Prongs will always lose that fight. I was, and am very happy to hear that Scotty is coming back. I think Teemu was waiting to hear what Captain Duck. As much as I love Scotty and Teemu the big news of yesterday for me was seeing Lupes come back. He should help return that fire to Marchants sick, they were amazing together.

Interesting numbers shows the growth of USA-born players:
Draft selections by birthplace:
Canada 102
United States 55
Sweden 24
Finland 10
Russia 7
Slovakia 5
Czech Republic 3
Belarus 1
Denmark 1
Germany 1
United Kingdom 1
Total 210
20 years ago it would have been about 180 from Canada, 20 from the US and a smattering of Euros.

Montreal fans are in full meltdown mode over the Scott Gomez trade. I for one am enjoying it..
My prediction - Gaborik, Havlat, Hossa sign elsewhere. Heatley, Briere, Smyth, Hartnell - all do not become Kings. The roster is set. Come on 8th place!

sign Scuderi as a UFA from pittsburgh (i like this guy)
and the bigger moves: kings get Ryan Smyth from colorado for Quincey, Preissing, and a pick in next year's draft. a move!

Yeah, but do you like him for $3.4 a year?2 moves for the kings:

That's a bit steep. So is Smyth at 6+. But he's a character guy with talent. I just hope he's not too old. I still want a scorer.
Okay, maybe we can squeeze into the 8 spot now.

actually yeah, if not for that one brilliant kick save against detroit. mucho character. maybe $2.6-$3 is more ideal, but more often then not we're talking about the Kings not wanting to pay someone what they want, rather than overpaying.Yeah, but do you like him for $3.4 a year?
That's a bit steep. So is Smyth at 6+. But he's a character guy with talent. I just hope he's not too old. I still want a scorer.
lombardi said he wanted a scoring LW, and he got one. Started reading Jay's text....got through "kings got ryan smyth..." and figured either frolov or jack johnson are probably involved. Then read it was quincey, priessing, and the pick next year. felt better. Get a beast for a guy picked up on waivers, a guy who who cleared waivers (right?), and a low pick.
I liked Quincey and will miss him. but gotta give to get (and outside quincey we didn't give much) Oh and Smyth waived his no-trade clause to come here. I'd buy him a beer for just for that.
(Read a few avalanche boards that were going ballistic over the what colorado got in return. this makes me smile)
allegedly lombardi made a huge push for hossa, but just wouldn't come near the deal chicago gave. while I don't blame him, sooner or later the kings may have to pay a little more than market value for some guys in order to really get them. (or least give the impression the kings are willing to pay some)
