I hope to be proved wrong, but I feel like this may be a 2006 World Cup for the U.S.  A lot of promise and expectation and perhaps a real let down.  There is even a Reyna on the team who might (or might not) fall down at a key moment in the game with bone spurs/cramps/hammy tension/alacpecia/psoriasis etc.

The one advantage that we have over virtually every team in the WC is our youth (which may also be a disadvantage).  We need to press hard, challenge everywhere, and back down no where.  And when we get a chance, we have to convert it.  We have to make the other team walk off the field after 90 minutes wondering what just happened to them.

This is pretty much Tyler Adams' game, so this could be a coming out party for him.  But any of our guys can make a name for themselves in the next month.

Older teams can get exposed in the WC, by the third game they can look a little flat and slow.  We shouldn't have that problem or, at least, it should impact us less than most other teams.

Of course, outside of Bale, Ramsey and Cole, Wales is a pretty young team as well.

To be fair, the line prior to the tournament was that the US had the best conditioning and could run forever.  Clearly that did not pan out.  I am really nervous about Berhalter, I rate him very little and his tendency to tinker is a problem.  Although I have to say I was pleasantly surprised Steffan was left off the squad (not happy about Johnson's inclusion though).

100%

This team is built for press and counter attack. We will be playing in conditions where brain farts will be a natural occurrence. Let's create chaos and capitalize. No need for joga bonito. Time to get gritty.

Bradley Wright-Phillips "I prefer it at Red Bull Arena, but it was OK. I could imagine it being good for a baseball crowd.

Wales has 9 players who are currently in the EPL, not counting Bale who probably could have gone there if he didn't go to LA.

Of those 9, 7 play for clubs who were promoted from the Championship this year (Fulham, Bournemouth, NF).

The US has 6 EPL players, but has 7 players in other Top 5 leagues, vs. 3 for Wales.

I really hope long has an amazing tourny and shuts all these haters up. They're starting to get on my nerves.

I also want him to do well because he deserves to get paid. Time for euro clubs to show him the money.

Hope so too
Zimmerman makes 2.5M
What could Long make in Europe?
I have no idea

But if he gets close to that and home to LA with 3 year contract would be tough call

Somewhat relatedBudweiser needs to milk FIFA for every cent they cant. Hopefully monetary consequences of this mistake make sure we never get one in a weird place like that

Im sure Qatar paid inBev off, handsomely, to make up for the last minute decision to ban alcohol at the stadiums.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

Not too surprising given the owner of the paper and the owner of the network televising the World Cup.

Anyone have an nj.com subscription? I'd like to know what they consider NJ's top 15 soccer bars but I'm not so interested as to fork out the money
