#1439947 2024 New York Red Bulls II Thread

Posted by elf on 04 December 2023 - 09:45 AM

I liked Mullings but bringing him to the first team isn't the answer. We have other young talented kids and this team is screaming for older players that will be difference makers. Plus, Red Bulls probably doing him a favor so he could find a team to have a bigger role. Im sure they would bring him back if he can't find anything better.

He is good and could have contributed to the first team. The international slot hurt him. Hopefully get goes to toronto, Montreal or Vancouver and does well.

#1439787 Sin bin or ice box coming?

Posted by elf on 30 November 2023 - 10:00 PM

Yellow cards are not enough of a detriment to tactical fouling imo. Teams are more than willing to have players foul in order to prevent promising attacks, goal scoring opportunities, or counter attacks. Yellow cards and free kicks are things you'd rather face than potentially giving up a goal especially in a low scoring sport. Especially now with 5 subs much easier to take out a player on a yellow and referees are very reluctant to give second yellows as it is.

Having said all that I'm not convinced sin bins are the answer but I'd like to see how it would go at the very least.

I actually dont think enough cards and fouls were given. Last season we saw tactical fouls not given yellows and karate kicks to the head not given reds.

If the refs dont enforce the current rules, why add an additional element that will most likely not be enforced.

I would rather see VAR given more power to review and card players if the ref misses a call.

You like watching a guy whose main skill is falling down to gain free kicks?

Argentina won a world cup and their most recent qualifier against Brazil that way.

It works and an efficient way to create scoring chances. We need better finishers.

#1439565 Academy good again?

Posted by elf on 24 November 2023 - 10:11 PM

we are not Barcelona and we are not signing Long type players who was 24 when he joined NYRBII to our reserve team any more. MLS next pro is the right level and more than enough of a challenge for 16-18 year olds because the game is much faster than the academy level they go up against seasoned college players and some vets coming down. There is a fine line between being challenged and being beat down. Its important players can still find success in the developmental stage. Also the gap from usl c to mls next pro is a lot smaller than the usl c to mls gap imo. As I keep saying the top players can make that jump from mls next pro to mls and its been proven across the league. The elite dont need a intermediate step between next pro and mls. Those that do will likely max out as fringe players at the mls level

The gap between MLS and the USL is not as far as one might think. In fact, for young players looking to excel in their soccer careers, the USL provides an ideal platform for growth and development compared to MLS Next Pro.

In order for youth players to reach their full potential, it is crucial for them to play against opponents on a competitive environment who are more experienced and skilled. This is where the USL comes into play. The USL has proven to be a competitive league, with players who are constantly being called up to their respective national teams and upsetting MLS clubs in the US Open Cup.

MLS Next Pro does not offer this experience and the "pro" players that will most likely play with the youth will most likely be out of soccer in the next 2-3 seasons.

This gap poses challenges for talented players who are ready to take the next step but find themselves ill-prepared due to the significant jump in quality between MLS and MLS next Pro. there is a pressing need for an intermediary stage that can provide players with an appropriate platform for growth and development.

There are concerns that the kids could get hurt by playing against stronger and faster opponents. That will always be the case if they decide to play amateur, youth or professional soccer. Even adults who move to European clubs will have that risk when they play against faster and stronger opponents.

The other argument is that RBNY already did the USL experiment and it failed only because they stopped fielding a full team. It was destined to fail if it is not treated like a professional team.

The goal for this team should be to consistently produce national team players. Only way to that is by challenging their players and putting them into challenging environments. That is why your right, we are not Barcelona. We are consistently not producing players to our national team. More investment is needed and the development scheme needs at minimum one more step bridge the gap between MLS next pro and MLS.

.  Rafa? Lothar? They were franchise-altering net negatives. Hell, Branco was pretty bad.

More like edmundo, Marcelo Vega, pietravalo bad

#1439440 Omir free agency

Posted by elf on 21 November 2023 - 01:54 PM

I prefer wingers like harper, duncan and luq who can create chances off a dribble or get fouled a lot.  That is why I am advocating for them to stay and have harper play up top.

With the addition of Forsberg, we just need a big body at forward that is willing to press and can be dangerous in the air.

#1439439 Omir free agency

Posted by elf on 21 November 2023 - 01:43 PM

I think the team can get a different look with Harper - the sort of player who you can sub in to a game where it looks like the opponent has you figured out, and immediately change how wide the team plays on the right, and force the opponent to respond. He also can play RB so thats a big plus.

Omir doesnt feel like a game changer to me as a sub. He's an attacker, but he doesnt give a different look for me. If you get rid of Manoel (who remember is only 21) then I guess you can keep Omir, but to me they are close to each other in skill and sort of redundant.

Basically, I think the choice is Omir vs. Manoel, not Omir vs. Harper.

Stat wise Fernandez #s are very interesting.

The leading goal scorers in MLS have roughly 39-42% of shots on target (sot)and the shot conversion (sc) % is around 14%-15%.

I think Fernandez should be one of our starting forwards. Manoel, burke and vanzier need to be let go. We need a big striker to partner with Fernandez.

Check this out:

Fernandez 42.5 % sot 15% sc
Manoel 39% sot 7.3% sc
Burke 27.3% sot 6.1 % sc
Vanzeer 20.8% sot 8.3% sc
Barlow 46.9 sot 9 % sc
Boulinga (lafc) 39.4 % sot 14.6% sc
White (van) 46.3% sot 15.8% sc
Vela (lafc) 41% sot 14.8% sc

That is one of the main reasons I want him to be our starting forward

#1439366 New York could take Peter Gulacsi

Posted by elf on 19 November 2023 - 07:02 PM

Excuse me, but I have to ask the blog.

Is Ryan Meara that damn bad  ?

Should have a statue erected in his honor for how long he's stuck it out .

Ryan is an amazing shot blocker and plays fearless.

he struggles a little with his distribution but the biggest issue for him is his hip.

he has not been able to stay healthy when he was given the number 1 job. At this point in his career, i would not be shocked if he retires or becomes a GK coach.

Hopefully the spanking he gave Charlotte motivates them to hire him. He is originally from the Carolinas.

Then he can take barlow from us...lol

#1439112 Emil Forsberg synergy

Posted by elf on 14 November 2023 - 02:54 PM

Pros
- knows the press system
- veteran presence
- playing at a high level
- win now move

Cons
- 32 years old - how long can his body withstand the press system and MLS travel/schedule
- we might have 1 good year and then a serious drop in form for his remaining 2-3 years
- this is a signing you make if your ready to fight for a championship.  I dont think we are there. We need more pieces.

#1439056 Ham Sammich Gone!

Posted by elf on 14 November 2023 - 11:56 AM

Wow, I can't  believe it. I never thought this was going to happen!

Hopefully they have someone lined up. We need a few new guys for january 2024 and not january 2025

#1438319 MLS TV moves to Apple

Posted by elf on 30 October 2023 - 12:09 PM

I have to say, Apple tv is good upgrade from good ole pirate streams and production is much better than MSG ever was.  They need to fix home radio stream and add away audio ffs.

It would be nIce if we could hear the radio broadcast for away games.

#1438274 Is Vanzeir a bust?

Posted by elf on 29 October 2023 - 09:07 PM

They wont do anything. Vanzeir and Morgan should be healthy and back for preseason. Look fans, new acquisitions!

Hopefully vanzier gets bought out and the DP slot is actually used on a difference maker instead of a backup for Barlow.
