That site is just such unmitigated trash that I think that it's snarky wiseguy punk articles should be printed out and dropped on ISIS but that would violate the Geneva Convention.

Petke ... isn't a victim here.

We will continue to disagree on this.

What would happen if you called someone that in your workplace?

I called people a lot of things at work, during a time frame where management did not lose its shit over an insult.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

yeah... not sure how Petke comes back from this.  Maybe time for a career change.

Well, that's certainly an interesting place to work.

If I repeatedly called someone "puto" at work right now, my desk would be packed up and I'd be escorted out by HR before day's end.

Did you bother reading Jake's whole post beyond the first nine words?

Yes, I did. Hence why I chose to use the words "right now", as we're both referring to different points in time. It was a tongue and cheek comment, to highlight how times have changed, not an attack on Jake. So, you don't have to run to his defense, as you often do.

Times have changed. I leave it at that.
I can only imagine what a Billy Martin or an Earl Weaver actually said to umpires. And the sanction usually was limited to ejection and a small fine.

Heck, I bet the umps gave as good as they got. Remember the Terry Collins confrontation with the ump going "My ass is in the jackpot" among other things?

Think it's a great point that the team looked great without Petke and that may have helped the firing.

Bottom line though is that it's just a different world right now.  Nowadays the intent just doesn't matter as much as the fact that he said those things.  It probably shouldn't be that way, but it is.  Especially during a time when the league has been extremely clear in trying to get rid of it.

People are acting like Petke was fired for something that happened years ago in his past.

He singled out a Hispanic ref and used a slur that he wouldn't have otherwise because he was Hispanic. Its 2019, you can't do that.

All that on top of the fact that RSL looks better without him, and it's an easy choice.

Always loved Petke, was pissed that he was fired, but I don't know why this is the least bit controversial.
Frankly, since I am merely a fan and a not a fancy American soccer writer, I'm going to congratulate Wright-Phillips on a well hit goal. If I was an American soccer writer, I'd claim that the recently retired Henry was wearing an invisibility cloak and carried the ball into the net for the obviously unskilled Wright-Phillips.

If you scan YouTube looking for Bradley Wright-Phillips, youll find numerous goal compilations, a few interviews and, eventually, an excerpt from the grime mixtape series Lord of the Mics.

RSL was at 1.43 pts/gm under Petke and they are undefeated with 2.5 pts/gm in four games under Juarez.  I know some of it is probably who they played, but still...
