#1438033 Metro - Charlotte Playoff Thread

It is always easy to quibble about this and that, but when was the last time we saw so many great goals in one game? Not only in the finishing, but the quality of the passing to create them.

No yellows either which is great if they can make a run.

My only quibble (had to have one, right?) was Lesesne risking key players by not subbing them when it was clear we had the game in hand. Edelman was getting particularly beaten up.

Marketing 101. He'll play, just not the whole game. They won't mess up (pun intended) a sold out game, especially in the Media Capital. The ripple effect for future games would hurt.

#1381212 This offseason is not a shitshow

Posted by Voice of Reason II on 06 April 2021 - 09:09 PM

I guess I look at it a little differently. The thing I like about sports is the uncertainty. We have had so much turnover this year that we almost feel like an expansion team. Not quite, but with so many unknown players, a new coach and no "big name", who would pick us to do well?

Our attack was so anemic that any change might be an improvement. I will actually look forward to the unknown because I have no expectations. Cheering for an underdog can be fun. I would expect the first part of the year to be bumpy since it will be hard to expect much chemistry early on, but maybe they will gel and make a run to be proud of. Other teams will certainly discount us, at least for a while.

While we probably don't have the firepower yet to make a deep run, I am hoping they are fun to watch and it will nice to see which of our new players will emerge.

There must only be a handful like you left.
When RBA opened, I was around 250 in seniority,
when it came to picking seats.
But I only became an STH in 2003.

There is me. I was around 22 or 24 seniority at the time.

My season tix are in 126, but for this game I got bumped all the way to 217. This club has a way of pissing off supporters. LOL

#1380371 Andrew Gutman on loan

Posted by Voice of Reason II on 11 March 2021 - 01:42 PM

I want to say Pendant has played LCB in a 3 in the back setup in his past as well. I like how this is setup as it points to a real plan - Gutman may have been plan C or D, but there was no way Struber was going to go into season without competition at LB. There's no option to buy, so its really seems like Struber demanding that the position be filled for team success, rather than RB asset development.

There is always an option to buy, just make an offer.

#1375252 Struber didn't start Kaku

Posted by Voice of Reason II on 22 November 2020 - 03:48 PM

How Struber did as a coach with only 3 practices is meaningless. The value of him coaching yesterday was to see what meager gruel we have on our plate. We will only get better team if there are serious talent additions. Best he got his nose rubbed into the fresh cow pies so he is incentivized to convince Austria to open up the wallet. When your broadcasters term Duncan your MVP because he was "steady" during the season you are in trouble. Kaku has not been a true difference maker for a while.

The stripes and logo in the Jersey look like electrical tape.

I am shocked that you are against this, you are usually so supportive of all things RBNY...

#1343152 What is Muyl good at?

Posted by Voice of Reason II on 19 March 2019 - 12:01 PM

i don't get a vote as to whether i will be optimistic this season that a previously trash player has turned the corner?

The coaches decide who plays. You as a fan can be happy or sad with their choices, but alas yes, you and I do not get a vote.

He was never a trash player.

Optimism or pessimism is entirely your choice.

Royer got robbed! Thought he was the driver for just about all our decent attacks, Muyl just got the final touch.

Being in the right place to score even if at close range is not always just luck. If we are going to go all the way we need so many players to deliver. Let's be happy they both did their job.

Most of us rarely got to see him play firsthand.  He looked the part physically, we made the effort to bring him in from overseas, and he was getting really good press (https://www.newyorkr...iew-hassan-ndam), which is enough for most people to be "really high on him."

We (the royal we) keep seeming to have to relearn to trust our coaching staff. Yes, they make a blunder on occasion, but really not very often.

It's not just about right now. It's early in the season so the players can handle the extra wear and tear, but the cumulative effect can be meaningful down the road. We have done the right thing.

to be fair we did last year, Fidel was really good imo for a 3rd CB and could start for plenty of teams (but you're right no other MLS team has a good starter level CB on the bench).

I missed the Epps injury and in a way hope that was the case.  Would explain why he looked so much worse than he did in the preseason.  Also in general our "injury report" that the team publishes before games seems very incomplete.  Personally I am not even sure that Kemar is healthy for Tuesday

I wish people remembered that when you just committed such big bucks to your starting pair of CB's, there are practical limits to what you can have in reserve. We obviously did spend draft capital on the D line along with picking up Tarek, so the notion that we are blind to our depth there is ludicrous (not talking about you). Tarek was fine (not perfect, but what did one expect?) defensively, but lacked distribution skills, blasting it away too many times. Hardly a lost cause yet.

Fidel would have been fine to have kept, but we might have wanted that Intl slot for other uses. Building a roster in a cap and intl slot restricted league doesn't allow you to just keep anyone you want.

If Mr. "I have been a fan since the inception" remembers Petke's 1st game he made a mistake that led to a goal. Long had a shaky period when we first moved him up. Most on here had written off Ivan. Tarek was a long way from being pathetic.

If you notice many fields the areas outside the field get worn down with the sideline refs running back and forth over the same area. Might have something to do with that.

of all the things to complain about....

Despite being underwhelmed by the modest increase in size, the video quality was very noticeably  improved

One day in the life of a NY sports fan: If it changes, bitch. If it doesn't change, bitch.  :P

I hope Armas learned something from this.

I hope Murillo learned something from this. Best thing to happen to him. If Duncan performs well Michael may have to work harder to win his job back. He needed some friendly competition. It will make him a better player.
