This isnt an argument against preparation. Yes the Cup competition is a crap shoot, but having proper depth to guard against more injuries etc. is the right way to build a squad.

Filling Davis shoes is still a question mark, the backup LB is a question mark, depth behind Klimala, and even CB with the injury to Reyes.

I didn't say any of this. What I'm saying is that looking at a lineup in January and saying "this is a Cup lineup" or "this isn't a Cup lineup" is more or less bullshit. If we wanted to talk about Supporters Shield or Top-3 in the East? Absolutely, let's dive in. There's legitimate analysis to be had there. you can stack the deck as besta s you can, and we need to and aren't there yet, but winning a Cup is largely about timing and luck. The roster that was our closest ever to winning MLS Cup is maybe not even in the top-10 in organizational history and they largely got there because Real Salt Lake hit the post like 8 times. That's not because of some underlying genius of the roster build. It was a fluke. That's all I'm saying.
