I always get stressed that these negotiations will drag on into the season and cause a strike, without even reading what's in there I'm at least glad they came to an agreement well ahead of time.

glad there's no strike/etc.

These are interesting:

New “Under-22” Player initiative
Beginning in 2021, MLS will have the discretion to allow clubs to sign up to three players who are 22 years old or younger on a reduced charge to a club's salary budget. More details regarding the new initiative will be provided at a later date.

Designated Player spots
Clubs will continue to have the right to sign up to three Designated Players in the new CBA. The league will have the right to limit the compensation for the third Designated Player to the maximum TAM Salary, unless the player is 23 years old or younger, in which case there will be no limit.

So, increased chances to do things with young players.

More $, more charter flights, slightly better free agency.... all good.    Still confusing GAM/TAM/DP stuff, but getting better and the focus on young players is very positive.  Also, they are forcing cheapskate teams to spend more by converting discretionary TAM to basic payroll (GAM).

Yes glad no work stoppage

I hope to see NYRB focusing on the U22 initiative

~6% team salary cap YOY increase. Seems a bit paltry, but players are getting a few charters and an earlier free agency instead of more salary cap. The media sharing (3+ years away, and only on the increase over 2022) is potentially a big boon, especially long term as it sets a precedent for players sharing in future pie increases.

I'm thinking owners are very, very happy with the relatively small amounts that they need to give up for now. Would bet the next CBA, which will include a likely much higher TV deal starting in 2023, is going to be much more contentious.

pretty awesome for any HG or reserve team player that scores a 1st team contract. makes you wonder how young players are being compensated in Europe at that point in their careers.

Im shocked they got this done this early.

All good stuff. My only quibble is that I hate the GAM TAM BLAM crap. Just do away with it.

I do not care about the owners.
I hope that the players like it.
A vote should be coming up soon.

Same here, just thinking players could have gotten even more. Obviously easy to say from the sidelines.

Perhaps they are content with earlier free agency.

The new free agent rules will apply to Sean Davis and Alex Muyl after this season assuming they don't re-sign. (Davis will be 27 with 6 years in MLS, Muyl will be 25, with 5 years in MLS)
