I’m looking back on the horrid history of the past and present ownership of this franchise and all signs point to it being cursed since its inception. Hell, even Chicago Cub fans have it better than us, if that’s even remotely possible.
So, based on what was said and written, would it be better if this franchise actually folded? I mean, from what I see, there’s no hope of us winning any titles, the management will always be a bunch of clueless idiots, the supporters have been permanently turned off and the fans in this area will never warm up to this team (as long as they are named the Red Bulls) no matter how many wins or championships they rack up.
Or, am I completely wrong on this?

We've never really had owners who cared passionately about the sport, city and club. To some extent I wish that AEG wouldve never took over the team and let the team "die". Sooner or later an owner who actually wanted a NY club wouldve come along and resurrected the team.

It all boils down to owners. And we've never had a legit owner with the right intentions. Kluge/Subotnik as much as they wanted to invest in the league got a real dose of reality of what it took to operate a soccer team in a start up league in the most costly market. They quickly realized that they werent going to see the return on their investment for years, if they ever were. Not to mention they did not know anything about soccer to begin with. AEG simply came in because at the time our league was going banrupt and in order to save the league they took over the team in hopes of eeping it afloat until a legit buyer came in. Well then theres Red Bull who we all know have a double agenda.

So, to you, a legit owner makes all of the difference? Sound logic, no question. But there have been many franchises that had onwers that were better managers and they ran successful teams. What about those guys? AEG has a winning franchise with the Galaxy. What I'm saying that it's hard to find a soccer-loving owner with deep pockets, especially in this area. A very rare combination indeed.

The female RBFO employee he spoke of is Lisa Becker. I don't know her personally, I've never met her, outside of my dealing with her ONCE purchasing a USOC ticket one Thursday evening. That's about it.
.
Best thread in like....Forever. So exciting. It's like going to the NFL Hall of Fame and trying to pick the best player. SO MANY GOOD CHOICES. Except ours are deceitful, inept, liars and incompetent.
Go back and look at MLS initial draft to see how bad it was. Agoof bringing in a Euro with Champions League experience.....Krapnick, who's brother was his agent. Nick Sack, all time legendary bad guy. Chris Heck is off to an unprecidented start, horrificly bad and disrepectful. Can't wait to read more comments.
I know Lisa Becker, she's super nice, total A+. I've been friendly with her the past few years and always talk to her when I see her at the stadium. Never thought of her as 'sassy'. I'm sure her husband wouldn't appreciate it.....I believe he works for Red Bulls also.
The New York Red Bulls previously kicked around Major League Soccer as the MetroStars with limited success. But after transforming under a new banner in 2005, the Red Bulls have become a force to be reckoned with in the Eastern Conference. The club has made leaps of progress since its previous incarnation and now has its focus on bringing the league title to New York. Nick Sack without question.
60-90 days
Treatment of supporters groups
Inflated ticket numbers
Horrible trades
Behavior on the bench
"I'm a Steinbrenner guy"
Taking credit for the Arena
Am I missing anything?
Yes.
Coming home from a Springsteen concert at the Swamp with a shiner.
And don't forget
OCTAVIO AND NICK IN THE HOT TUB WITH STRIPPERZ !!!!!!!!!! </Flaco>

Its not really that hard. AEG like I said only took us over cause they didnt want the rest of their investment to go to shit(LA,CHI,HOU). But they do care about the sport, club and city(LA). Just that in our case they were just being caretakers and never really wanted to be involved. Look at all the other owners of this league they all to a certain extent are emotionally involved in their team more than just to make $$. Teams that have less vocal or involved owners do worse. Its just like any other business if the owner doesnt really care neither would anyone else. And the wrong people get hired and things will be let go to shit. Thats what weve had here, we've never had a legit owner who actually cared about the club. Even with RB now theres always that "RB agenda" to everything. So, to you, a legit owner makes all of the difference? Sound logic, no question. NickSack still gets my vote. Everyone after is just small potatoes compared to that guy. (to me)
I will never forget celebrating in the bleachers at Rutgers after we won the Open Cup semi-final and reaching down to Nick and giving him a high-five while screaming, "We did it Nick! We did it!"
...so that was a good day with Nick in charge. Guess not a lot of them though, huh?

He was the only GM, who ever called me down onto the field, to berate me!I will never forget celebrating in the bleachers at Rutgers after we won the Open Cup semi-final and reaching down to Nick and giving him a high-five while screaming, "We did it Nick! We did it!"
But, he did email me an invite to the Harrison groundbreaking!
We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

I see your point. Thanks for clearing that up.

Biggest Blowhard Idiot - Alexi Lalas - No one was more damaging with his player decisions and trades and big talk with no results than Alexi. He canned Bob Bradely and made him wear A suit and tie, he orchestrated many poor trades and basically took a good Metro side and morphed them into a joke before lying his face off and quitting on the job to go to LA where he proceeded to destroy that franchise. Jeff Agoos gets honorable mention for this catagory.
Biggest Asshole - Nick Sack - Seriously, the guy was a total dickhead and such a backstabber when it came to the supporters. Too much to list, his only saving grace was that he was the archietect for the Hrrision stadium plans and did do enough boot licking to get the deal in place with AEG which allowed Red Bull to come in and build.
Biggest Mistake Maker - Mark deGrandpre - A soda sa;esman in charge of a soccer team was never a good idea. This guy was wayyyyy over his head and didn't even know how to spell soccer. He made what could have been the single biggest mistake in club history when he fired Bruce Arena in 2007. Mark would get canned and leave soon after and Bruce would go on to build a dynasty like team in Los Angeles.
Biggest Superfan - Charlie Stillitano - He liked soccer, he was somewhat personable but he also made decisions with his heart and love for AC Milian which ultimately handcuffed Metro those first 3-4 seasons. Of all the GM's we had I reserve the least animosity for Charlie because in the end his heart was in the right place he was just not fit to manage a professional socer franchise. He was also friends with Georgio which reflects poorly on his charecter.

There was an awful lot of "he's an asshole, but he's our asshole" in the Nick days.
You mean the one time he gave the ESC a garbage can full of beers right? Yeah, still a piece of shit.

You mean the one time he dumped a garbage can full of beers right? Because I still fucking hate him and happy he's gone.
If you're talking about the time the FO laid on a shitload of tallboys for an ESC bus trip to the ill-fated end-of-season trip to New England, THAT was actually Washo's doing - if I remember correctly. And to be precise, it was Bob Vasquez (I think I've got his name right) who was the FOer there in the parking lot to hand them over to us. Good guy the times I talked to him.
I'm more talking about Nick's reception at events like ESC beginning of season get-togethers. As I remember a lot of people correctly read that the majority of his bravado was bullshit, but just rolled with it for the first couple years. I'm almost certain that "he's our asshole" sentiment was something I heard from someone at one of those events, though I can't remember who.

i rolled with it at first, got us to do the "hail to the chief" melody at Nathan Hale's when he spoke there once.
