This is admittedly an arbitrary start point to being counting, but DC has only beat us 2 times in our last 18 meetings dating back to 2014. One of which was the 2nd leg in the 2015 playoffs, which allowed us to advance. We are 11-2-5 with a +13 GD in that stretch.

Gutted about result last night. We deserved more. Looking forward to a 12 hour travel day which could be done in 6 but hey this is mls. We will get ready for red bulls Wednesday. #Charterflights #msl

Hoping they actually get a charter flight for Sims to meet the team at some point.

The grueling travel days certainly helped make his decision to go back to England easier.

If you havent watched the post game presser with Armas I highly suggest it.

He called Rece a lockdown defender, and then goes on awkwardly for a good couple minutes.

Now I like Rece and I like his future, but Jesus Fucking Christ thats just...thats just not true...at all.

There is plenty of fair criticism of Armas, considering how this season has gone. However, I take no issue with him building up and praising his players, especially the young ones, when addressing the media/public.

I agree. But, we've been a favorite so many times and how did that work out. All we need to do is get hot at the right time. The one thing that's still giving me hope is that this team does tend to show up and play well in big games. We are not as good as previous years overall but we absolutely have the capability to beat any team in the league on any given day.

I agree with you. However, the new playoff format concerns me, in terms of us getting hot and making a run. Of course, this playoff format would have benefited us immensely last year. Such is life as a Metro fan. But, I'd really like to see us finish Top 3 in the East.

Did you bother reading Jake's whole post beyond the first nine words?

Yes, I did. Hence why I chose to use the words "right now", as we're both referring to different points in time. It was a tongue and cheek comment, to highlight how times have changed, not an attack on Jake. So, you don't have to run to his defense, as you often do.

Metromaniac01 you do make a lot of good points but in reference to nycfc and how they treat their fans they are clearly not doing something right either, whether it's the stadium, the play of MLS or whatever the fact remains that their attendance has dropped off a ton since they first started and it drops every single year. They started off with 20k season ticket holders and are now below 13k season tickets and overall attendance drops every year too.

Pretty much what I was coming to say. I agree with the overall sentiment, but NYCFC should not be the bar. They are by no means the gold standard in MLS. They have plenty of attendance woes.

Of course, but if the word said was puto, I doubt he used it as a homophobic slur. After all, Mexico will not even admit that it is.

I agree that I highly doubt he intended it to be homophobic, but how he picks and chooses his words should be held to a higher standard than a bunch of fans in attendance.

I don't think they are better attacking team then the last year's Atlanta. Speaking of special, it all depends on what you mean by special and how it compares to mine. For example, this year's All Star MLS team was pretty strong top to bottom, and still was demolished by Athletic Madrid 3:0. Athletic was a special team, imo. Red Bulls created obvious problems to LAFC's organization of attack in the first half, demonstrating some of their deficiency in passing from the back and in the middle. Therefore for me NYRB made obvious that LAFC was not as special as I would think judging from the statistics.

So the standard for excellence, even though were speaking in the context of MLS, is a top 3 side in La Liga and arguably a top 10 club in the world?

Were talking about a club thats on pace to shatter the single season points and goal differential records, as well as set the record for wins and goals scored. In nearly every conceivable team metric, they are the best club in MLS history. I dont know how that doesnt qualify as special.

At least we are showing that LAFC is nothing special, and its stars have their limitations.

LOL. They dropped 4 on us, but we somehow exposed them as "nothing special".

They are the best club and most prolific attack that MLS has ever seen.

Because Hamlett is our technical director. Hes completely inept.

LAFC's payroll is also double ours and Vela makes nearly as much as our entire club.

They dont understand how the MLS works.

So they're operating on equal footing with Hamlett

What did ream go for? Cause Long is worth at least 3 times that.

And how did you arrive at that valuation?

Ream had just turned 24 when we sold him. Long is about to turn 27. Ream was also sold 7 and a half years ago. Comparing the two to attempt to arrive at a value is a rather pointless exercise.

I don't agree for a bunch of reasons, but primary among them is that it's good to be honest.  If you don't plan on selling integral players in the summer, tell guys that when they come in so they get less upset if and when a summer move is rejected.

I'm not saying this is the case, but if Long has an expectation that he'll be sold in the event of Euro interest, regardless of the window, and he doesn't get sold this summer, he's going to be a miserable bastard for the rest of the season.  That's not good for anyone.

Telling prospective signings that you're open to winter sales is better than most teams in MLS anyway, so I don't think it would have much of an effect, if any, on player recruitment.

Totally fair. Im not arguing that they shouldnt be honest and transparent. I, of course, want them to conduct their business with players ethically and in good faith. However, fundamentally I think they should be open to transfers in both the summer and winter for many reasons, the optic to potential acquisitions being one of them. Hence, they need not have any sort of policy regarding seasonal transfers.

#1349501 2019 Player Salaries

Posted by General Robles on 18 July 2019 - 12:12 PM

Let's face, seems that every year we have guys that just eat up salary and dont contribute. For what Ivan and Jorgensen(sp?) make, we sure are shitting the bed when we could have just traded for and MLS journeyman for a sure bet.

We also have guys that are underpaid relative to their performance and we're extracting great value from them. You'd be hard pressed to find any club (in any sport, really) that is not carrying a player(s) that is vastly overpaid and/or dead weight. If you measure clubs' performances over the past 6 years versus their payrolls, I'd imagine we are at the very top of the league in terms of bang for your buck.

All that being said, we all want to see more investment into the squad and smart investment, at that. But, it's hard to make a thorough argument that they've invested poorly with what they've been allowed to spend when looking at the full scope.

LAFC and the Sounders (when fully healthy) seem to be the top two in the league.

I think the conversation really just comes down to there's LAFC, then there's everyone else. Then, I think there's a debate to be had for who's second best when at their best, fully healthy, etc. I wouldn't necessarily disagree that that could be Seattle, but there's an actual discussion to be had.

LAFC is miles better than everyone by every conceivable metric. They are a +36 GD. For context, the current playoff spot holders in the East have a combined +24 GD. The current playoff spot holders in the West have a combined +20 GD.
