Dead horse topic if ever there was one, but, here's an NYTimes story about RB & their rise through the German ranks, if someone is inclined to read about our German cousins.

http://www.nytimes.c...ref=sports&_r=0

I wish the Times could cover our local soccer team of the same name with the same thoroughness- you know, THE ONE YOU CAN SEE FROM THE TOP OF THEIR BUILDING IN MIDTOWN- but anyway, that's an entirely separate dead horse.

Overall, I'm kind of mixed on the RB Leipzig thing. I think having a company support a team as a benefactor can be ok (Wolfsburg & Leverkusen are both mentioned, and neither of those really rankled me), when done properly. RB obviously eschews doing it properly with the names & badges, hence the gnashing of teeth.

In the case of RB Leipzig though, the club they took over was legitimately a minor league outfit, who sold their license and then reformed under the old name, so it was really just a paper transfer of little note. Plus, you could argue- as the article notes- that Leipzig had a large stadium and no real team to root for, so RB filled a void rather than taking over something with a more significant history (top tier league, etc.) and re-branding it.

But anyway, it's a decent article.

Only thing needed to be said in this thread.

Sometimes I think the entire Red Bull existence has been some 19 year old kids football manager save file he only plays when he comes home drunk. - 'Mibabalou'

Love them or hate them, Leipzig are 6 points clear at the top of the Bundesliga, following today's stomping of mid-table Freiburg.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

We have to settle for a proxy battle 1.5 times annually.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

I don't follow RBL, but I love how it fucks with some Eurosnobs who i know that are "anti-modern football"

I find myself rooting for these guys based on the sole fact that they make everyone else mad.

outside of Damari and Terrence Boyd, couldn't tell ya who else is on the roster...but i feel the exact same way. i see ppl who are in our fanbase tweet often about what RBL is doing, etc, i'm fine with them enjoying RBL's run. personally, what they do doesn't affect me
