#1357499 Schedule 2020

Not a fan of this at all. You should face every team one time...

#1357299 What would it take for Red Bull to sell?

Posted by rhactl7 on 25 November 2019 - 10:17 PM

Very telling for me when Hamlett said "If it has to be a young DP, i will make the best case to my ownership group". He also said earlier in the year "I think we're getting caught up in DPs... Aaron Long is playing like a DP."

It's pretty clear what's going on here. He's on a VERY tight budget.

"if it has to be"

It won't have to be.

"well ownership realllly doesn't want us to spend that much, but if its the ONLY way we can get better - i'll try to make the case for it - but they'll probably still say no"

That's basically what he said.

Fuck outta here...

(Via Franco Panzio) Dennis Hamlett "We're in a good position to bring players in to make our team stronger. ... If it has to be a young DP or DP, I'll make sure I go to my ownership group and make a strong case. We want to get back to the level we're accustomed to."

....We aren't getting anyone significant

#1357049 Contract deadline day

Posted by rhactl7 on 21 November 2019 - 03:19 PM

From a purely sporting perspective, I actually agree with the moves.

- Ryan Meara is a starter quality keeper. Younger and makes a lot less money. He's impressed any time he has gotten the chance. It is time for him to take over the position.

- BWP's age caught up with him. By the end of last year, he was our 3rd chose striker behind White and Barlow. It was time to move on.

From an emotional standpoint...this hurts. This really hurts. Its the end of an era. We should have won a Cup with these guys but we never did. 3 Shields to show for it though. And a lot of memories. Time to re-build and create a new era of Metro legends

#1356693 New logo, if anyone cares

Posted by rhactl7 on 13 November 2019 - 09:14 AM

They are changing the logo, colors and uniform but doing nothing about better players, better coach, better gm or higher salaries. They are suddenly trying to go from a soda identity to a generic one. To me, it looks like they are looking to cash in.

First off - the two have nothing to do with each other. The people who are designing the jersey and logo are not the same people that are choosing players or the GM lol. I really don't think this new logo has anything to with them selling the team...that's quite a stretch.

I would not want Mario Balotelli anywhere around this team. Guy is a head case

We didn't just lose in first round of USOC. We lost to a worse team, that was down a man, at our fake home field.  That makes a difference.

Oh and IIRC we didn't even play a strong lineup even though there was no fixture congestion

#1356060 NYCFC is owned by slavers

Posted by rhactl7 on 23 October 2019 - 10:43 PM

Thank god they lost. I honestly thought they were going to win it this year.  What a shit result for them. Play the whole year to get home field advantage, and get to the playoffs and lose on their backup baseball field. Hahaha Good. Fuck em. This is what they signed up for. Game looked horrible on TV too with the weird angle and netting. What a joke.

#1355952 The Fire Chris Armas Thread

There is literally 0 reason to keep this guy. The guy was given the best MLS team in history and turned it into a disaster. A major drop off in points form last year, a failure in every competition we played in this year. Worst home record in a decade. And essentially every player regressed from last year. How is he not being fired?

It is possible that ownership saw how well we did the past few seasons and just thought - "we don't need to spend that much to be successful in this league"  We won the Shield with the lowest payroll, so why spend a ton of money on young talent if we don't really need it? (I'm not agreeing with that - I'm just trying to see it from their point of view). Maybe they thought that just Kaku would be enough. Maybe they thought Jorgensen would make an immediate impact (obviously he didn't). Well...now it is clear that we need more talent. Lets  see what happens this off season.

This season was a complete and total failure in every single way.

Last year we had the best season in MLS history and came up short. So lets  look at what's happened since then...

OUT: Tyler Adams

IN: $2M transfer for a striker that played on RB2 the entire season, even when BWP AND BRIAN WHITE were hurt.

CCL: Don't make a run and get embarrassed By Santos

US Open Cup: Lose in the first round to a 10 man Revolution at home....Oh sorry, I mean at "Home"

Regular Season:

- 23 point decrease from last season

- Most defeats at home in RBA era

- No home playoff game for first time in RBA era

- 14-14-6 Record. +2 GD. Finished 12 of 24 teams. Almost perfectly mediocre

Mid Season Transfers:

- Wait until the last minute of deadline day to sign a loan of Josh Sims with no option to transfer. As soon as he has enough time to get acclimated to the team, he has already played his last game for the team.

Playoffs: Blow TWO 2 goal leads and lose in the first round to Philly who is not even that good.

Everyone single one of those categories is unacceptable.

- The ENTIRE back-line (least GA in MLS history last year) has completely blown up. Both as a whole, and each one of them individually.

- BWP's career is over

- Our best player Kaku has openly said he wants to leave the club

- Murillo went from being an All-Star to not even making the 18 in a playoff game and  "burning bridges that will never be able to fixed" (Or w/e the quote Dyer said was)

OH, and just to top it off - attendance is rapidly declining, so much so that half of our stadium is tarped off and there's still loads empty seats every game

We did not get unlucky. We did not get plagued with injuries. We were just bad. All year.

This feels like the end of an era for me. If ownership are going to follow the path of the last few years and rely on RB2 guys again, they wont get much return from us as fans. I'll still go to a game now and then. But I'm not gonna go out of my way to do it. If they actually want to try and compete, they will need to show that by using all 3 DP spots. And use them on young, talented players who can make a big difference. Guys like  Lodiero, Pozuelo, Gustavo Bou ect. If not, then really...whats the point? We aren't going to win anything, and it will look like a ghost town in Harrison next season.

#1355066 If Red Bull had to do it over

Posted by rhactl7 on 09 October 2019 - 02:48 PM

If Red Bull didn't buy the team....for all we know, we'd still be playing at  a 10% full Giants Stadium/Metlife, Still have 0 cups, 0 Shields, not have an academy team, and not make the playoffs most years. Just saying...the grass is not always greener on the other side.

Anyway...they do own the team. And have for the past 15 years. And are not selling it anytime soon. So this is all nostalgia...

This is our shortest away trip - and its a winnable, single elimination playoff game. Everyone should make the trip down to Philly!

#1354782 If Red Bull had to do it over

Posted by rhactl7 on 01 October 2019 - 10:03 PM

It is very odd how much money they have put into the academy, RB2, the stadium, Kaku, and then go and be the 2nd lowest spending team in the league by salary....

Also, you would think that with the league growing so rapidly, another NY team arriving, but many NY area fans still up for grabs, now would be a very, very important time in their investment...
