No Tim,Thierry, or BWP...... next year is going to be a handful for the f.o.

-snip-

I respectfully disagree.

I think that the FO is salivating over Henry's money coming off the books and would love to be able to keep Cahill on as their lone "lower cost" DP (I don't know BWP's status). Without Henry I think Red Bull has the team at exactly the payroll level they want and will see no reason to spend on any other big-name players. They may invest some time and effort into making up excuses and temporizing (e.g. "we're searching for just the right DPs so as not to upset the chemistry of the team") but will have absolutely no intention of sinking more money into Red Bull as it's probably not making enough money to warrant any additional investment.

Again, as I say, no one who posts here really knows (and Dieter himself may not even know for sure) but that's my take.

In defense of Cahill...

The article posted states that Cahill is thinking beyond NYRB / Metro.

My recollection however is that the initial rumors about Cahill's status revolved around messages coming out of the club indicating they weren't averse to moving him.

So the possibility exists that this is the polar opposite of Defoe.

Cahill may be making plans out of necessity...

There were rumors of unaccepted transfer offers being considered after the World Cup and a January move away from the club was being hinted at pretty heavily during yesterday's broadcast (although, that could have just been Cahill responding to questions about Henry leaving). He hasn't committed to playing here next season, but unlike Henry he will still be under contract.

I wouldn't mind keeping Cahill if he moved to striker. If Petke's strategy is going to be "CROSS EVERYTHING," then I'd love to keep one of the best finishers of crosses in the world. But if there is a coaching change, major player overhaul, change in strategy, or Cahill plans on staying in the midfield, then I would rather he goes.

A big problem in the DC game wasn't the crossing, that was just a symptom.  Every time NY tried to go up the gut they found themselves in a forest of DC defenders.  If you need midfielders capable of breaking down opponents off the dribble and combining well to create space, then Cahill just isn't the guy you'd pick for that lineup.  He's a bit of a problem, because he is capable of doing dirty work and will run through a brick wall to help his team, yet he isn't a playmaker nor is he a 20 goal scorer.  So where does he play?  He's either a 2nd striker or  the box-to-box guy in a 5 man midfield.  As the point of the diamond in a 4 man midfield, he's almost completely useless (except for his D).  If he's up front, then he is capable of being a goal mouth finisher and a great header of crosses, but he's not your center forward.

I like Cahill, he's got a huge heart and had a great season last year, but he's just not doing well right now and has even missed some golden chances in the last couple of games.  If he has market value, maybe to the A-League, then I'd move him out in the off-season.

Its obvious to everyone... next year, if we can get a playmaker to upgrade/replace Peggy (who I will bet leaves with Titi) and then move Cahill up top, life will be great.  Tha's a big "if," and doesn't answer the challenge we have this year.     By now Mike should have tried sitting BWP and see what happens with a Titi/Timmy pair up top while Peggy sets things up.    Thee is no reason for BWP to play every game - he got the record, he lkely won't / shouldn't beat the MLS record, so give him some needed rest and try out that formation.

Shouldn't we be trying out the BWP/Cahill partnership since that's likely what it would be next season?

Is there any in this rout with authority to treat with me? Or indeed with wit to understand me?

Fair enough.  But BWP has played jus about every minute of every game.

I don't know it this is not Metro related, but in FIFA 14 he has seen a huge drop in rating.  EA has really kept track of player performances recently..  He was rated 75 last year to a lowly 67!   That isn't DP worth material at all. Boy I can't even play the him in the game any more.  And I just read this at empireofsoccer that he'll be rated at 74.  Well well well..

Just saying. The whole world knows that Cahill is not looking good.

We all know.  The dude needs to start scoring or get sold to EPL.  4 million flushed down the toilet this season on Cahill.  Last hope on this final playoff race.
