Yeah it's true that, if you have one good player, you don't have a bad season. I remember Juan Pablo Angel putting the team on his back in 2009 and carrying us to success.

Jpa was a good player. By 2009, he was washed up. Kaku is in his prime.

You honestly watch this team and think solely swapping out the #10 would change the trajectory? How do you explain the performance when Kaku was inexplicably benched for 2 games?

Additionally, do you recall Kaku having league leading assist totals when he arrived, under Marsch, only to mysteriously fall off after that?

If it was 10 games in without a striker scoring we would not have this type of season and did not try to play 4222 and then everything else.

Bradley Wright-Phillips "I prefer it at Red Bull Arena, but it was OK. I could imagine it being good for a baseball crowd.

He finished tied for 3rd in goals in all of MLS despite being served balls by Danleigh Borman and Jorge Rojas.

Ok, isnt it kaku's job to create scoring opportunities? He is on pace to have 3 assists this year.

Dude at this point any of us could play striker with same results.

you might accidentally knock one in off your pointy shoes if you play forward.

Its a common sentiment across all sports, but the thought that every single young player will jump to the next level through sheer force of playing time has always driven me a little crazy.

Not sold on kaku.... Rather have valot pull the strings.

And for royer, he has been a trooper.... I am a fan of stroud and mines... I dont think we will have a significant drop if royer is sold.

This is pretty much exactly what I'm talking about lol

Kaku has been doing his job and playing balls in behind the defense, our strikers have failed miserably to do anything with them. According to WhoScored.com Valot has completed exactly zero through balls since coming back from his 2018 injury.

Royer is slowing down but has been a 10+ goal per year winger. Mines and Stroud have one MLS goal between them.

If you want to replace Kaku and Royer by going out and splashing $8M for two new midfielders, I'm all for it. Replacing them with USL players and crossing our fingers that they suddenly jump to a higher level of play is how we got into our current position to begin with.

Depends. We need a mobile poacher to make this work. White could have been the answer but he doesnt look like the same player. Seems like he is not 100%. I also know nothing abt tetteh.

Not sold on kaku. He just doesnt fit. Not aggressive on the offensive end. Doesnt play defense. Ih he played with royer's heart, he would be a 20-30m player. But he doesnt andvwho knowd Where you play him? Rather have valot pull the strings.

And for royer, he has been a trooper. If we unload him now we could get something of value. If we cant, then he is a 60 min player in this team. I am a fan of stroud and mines. Both play fearless and with a lot of aggression. I dont think we will have a significant drop if royer is sold.

Ideally, i would like to bundle money from a royer and kaku sale and bring in a complete forward. Maybe a longterm dp contract for michy batshuayi, jhon cordoba or borja mayoral. Cordoba would be my preference.

Maybe White's hurt, but he and you and I have the same amount of goals this season...

Kaku had like two or three goals last year that were a direct result from pressing the defender or keeper.  He plays hard and can press.  This year is more about him playing out of position and without a talented striker.

Royer is a 30 year old, coming off a mediocre MLS season.  Who exactly is going to buy a player like that?  You move on from him because you think you can upgrade, but you're not getting any money worth mentioning for him.

If kaku was a good player, we wouldnt be having this type of season.

One, that's not how things work.  Two, he's been serving the ball into strikers that "can't finish a sandwich" (see the MLS is Back Atlanta match for what happens when he hits a target that's useful).  Three, he's been playing out of position.

Jpa was a good player. By 2009, he was washed up. Kaku is in his prime.

Scored 12 goals in 2009.  Scored 14 in 2010 when we finished first in the East.  Same player both years.

Ok, isnt it kaku's job to create scoring opportunities? He is on pace to have 3 assists this year.

See above about Kaku (no striker, out of position, minutes have been limited).

There needs to be some turnover, but there's at least a dozen and a half guys that are staying cuz their salaries are cap friendly, or they aren't taking up a cap-salary slot, since they're young players on their 1st pro contract. Clearing the roster of 8-10 guys will be helpful and it presents Thelwell with the opportunity to upgrade the roster with starting caliber guys and new prospects that have a higher ceiling.

Madam, there is no second.

We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

Btw, kaku was playing on the wing which is the position he was playing in Argentina

If you want to claim he was playing out of position... then he was playing out of position when marsch started him as an attacking midfielder.

Kaku has been terrible this year

In the high press, in the RB system, hes not a winger or wide midfielder. Same reason Etienne & Veron couldnt get minutes on the wing under Marsch, but Etienne gets regular minutes on the wing for Shield leading Columbus. Guys are suited for different roles in different systems.
