I wish. This is what Leipzig and Salzburg do. We're not really doing that. How many college draft picks and non-academy USLers have been (or could have been) sold for profit in the entire league in the last 5 years or so? The one guy on RBNY this could apply to, Aaron Long, is ironically the one guy they've bent over backwards to keep.
Yeah we should be so lucky as to be run like Salzburg and Leipzig, in terms of acquiring young talent be it local or from all corners of the globe and developing them.

I mean, let's look at Salzburg's total transfer sales over the last few seasons, per https://www.transfer...fers/verein/409:
13/14: 605K
14/15: $52.03M
15/16: $9.46M
16/17: $80.9M
17/18: $18.7M
18/19: $67.76M
19/20: $127.33M
They sell players for profit, but then reinvest some (NOT all) of that profit into acquiring better talent, who is then sold for even more profit, and the cycle continues.
MLS rules (allocation, salary cap, etc.) complicate matters, but we're not even trying a plan that resembles anything Salzburg is doing. We're trying to build a competent roster as cheaply as we can and then hold that cheap roster together as long as possible. Under the Salzburg model we would have reinvested the Murrillo and Lawrence money. We would have sold off Long, Royer, and maybe Parker at their peaks and invested directly in younger players. Yeah, Salzburg has a few veterans sprinkled into the squad, but they're not the guys who are leaned on to do the heavy producing on the field.

Expansion team, Charlotte, whom don't even have an identity, have signed their first player!! Not a common name, but at least someone from a technical region of the soccer world. And here we are, being rejected by English clubs left and right.....how is that strategy working out for us Red Bull??

Liverpool, upon Klopp taking over as manager, spent more than 25mil euros+ each on 10 players:
Benteke
Firmino
Wijnaldum
Mane
Oxlaide-Chamberlain
Salah
Van Dijk
Fabinho
Keita
Alisson
and they press like motherfuckers. and they manage to find the "right fit" and get the guys they want.
MUST BE NICE.

Dont know where 22 year old college seniors who cut their teeth in the USL for 1-2 seasons and join the MLS at 24 fit into the picture. As squad players, sure; as the backbone for a team serious about winning and supposedly serious about developing talent, no.

If we are supposed to be a pipeline to Salzburg/Leipzig/Europe, I understand building up the academy, and I understand buying young talent from abroad , what I dont understand is committing more resources to the draft when it is increasingly becoming a non entity in this league.

We need squad players. Also, while we didn't get Valot in the draft, we may as well have, given his age. Its still MLS, and there are still opportunities for late bloomers to find a role.

4 ways to get a better team:
1. go out and buy players better than what we have
2. develop young players that we have in our pipeline
3. improve current players with better coaching
4. have more intelligent management and organization than other teams
In our situation,
#1 is out of the question
#2 has been constantly above average
#3 is not noticeably better under Armas
#4 should be a lot better once Thelwell gets settled in
Other factors:
#1 Our best players often want to go to Europe, but we use the proceeds for general purposes, not to buy talent.
#2 Most of our sources of income are poor- tv, attendance. However, transfer fees are ok.
#3 Our salary expense is near the league bottom.

Everyone on the coaching staff and FO (except clerical-level) should have to hand-write this list out every day.
In cursive.
In Japan, it would be the company song.
We are good enough to beat the best teams, and bad enough to lose to the worst teams.

~1 month until the transfer window opens?
hope it's more than just Yearwood.

Probably, probably not. At this point I'm expecting the worst, hoping for the best. But watch me expect nothing and still be disappointed.
