I am so saddened by this, I keep hoping they'll come to their senses - even last minute:
The Farce of the Tour de France.

the Tour is tough on their doping policies but i would rather have that than the Major league steroids policy. MLB turned its back to all the late 1990s users. the Tour is tough but has to be fair too.

on a more positive note, i cant wait for saturday's stage one. no prologue this year. it should be fun.

They've gone too far. Without the major governing body behind you, it's a joke.

Plus, everyone on Astana is clean. They've got a vendetta against Bruyneel.

Because Astana was previously cleared by cycling's international governing body, the ASO's decision, backed by the French federation, has led to a nasty little fight among the organizations. The French federation has been suspended, and the Tour de France, amazingly enough, is no longer listed on the international calendar. This is somewhat like the World Series operating as a wildcat tournament without sanctioning from Major League Baseball.

Everybody riding as an international pro and who's a contender for the GC in a grand tour has used performance enhancing drugs in the past and is going to use them again in the future. They might be laying low for now, but it'll creep back in. After the 98 tour they said the same crap!
For every drug test they come up with someone is going to find away around it, or try to get around it. Go back and look at the history of the tour or sports for that matter and see all the different ways people tried to cheat.

Edit: One could argue that it's been a 'farce' for years, no matter who's riding in it.

Hah! Same here. I eat my cereal on the couch and watch the last half hour every morning, I usually catch the rest later that evening.

Beltran busted!

Where is everyone!?

Wake me when its over, and fill me in on all the drama.

This is more of a soap opera than a sporting event.

Why the fuck would ANY stupid bastard think they can get away with EPO at the Tour? And what was with them commenting on how many riders were told they were "borderline" regarding their tests. BORDERLINE? Is there fucking dope in them or not?

The Tour needs to make it where the riders have guns. THAT would be fun.

Ricco - 2 stage winner in the tour. GONE. Tested positive for Cera (3rd generation of EPO) team Saunier-Duval withdraws.

And Astana - with ZERO riders ever testing positive, not invited to the Tour.

Whatever.

I'm still sucked in. Nothing more gorgeous than France in July, wish I was there.

No surprise here, they were cleaning up on the last mountain stages. Who was that SD rider 'Bobo' who came in second on a mountain stage with his team mate Piepoli??
BOBO!??? I'm surprised a CSC rider hasn't failed a test yet.

Ullrich or Basso never tested positive...or Jonathon Vaughters.

I love it nonetheless.

There will always be new drugs... http://tour-de-franc...-team-withdraws

Edit: I remember BOBO!! He was in Avail! I saw them at the Palace many moons ago.

His name was Cobo.

Cavendish with four stage wins? FOUR? When does his positive test come back?

These long flat stages are boring really, they ride 113 miles just to have the sprinters hammer it out in the last couple of K's.

Bring me the Alps.
