Cincinnati have had a good offseason player acquisition wise. This coaching stuff is what is messing them up.

This. Remember them trying to make Mike Labelle happen as the in-match host?
They know what they want.
Ugh, that guy. Always pushing him as if he is our own version of Javier Hernandez or Carlos Vela. He just plays FIFA!

I just don't see how they view this roster in any way being better than last season's.
The only hope to make the playoffs it seems is that there are quite a few terrible teams in the East who have done arguably less rebuilding than RBNY:
MIAMI: For all the hoopla surrounding them their roster looks awful. They have been linked to tons of players but have signed nobody. Their attack consists of Agudelo, a washed up Lee Nguyen and an unproven 19-year old you DP Argentine. They'll finish dead last in the conference I bet.
CHICAGO: They tore their roster down ahead of the big move to Soldier Field then proceeded to sign pretty much nobody. Chicharito 100% should have been signed by Chicago. Whoever is in their FO they are giving de Grandpre a run for the money in terms of bad league execs.
ORLANDO: Loser club with a losing mentality and perpetually struggling at forward. No idea how many chances they are going to give Dwyer but he's not the answer for their goalscoring woes. Bad defense too.
MONTREAL: Quioto is a good add but they always seem to be a cheap club unwilling to make splashes. Piatti looks finished if he sticks around.
CINCY: I think they'll be better than last year with their offseason but still, huge question marks.
So with those five being bad, figure RBNY would only have to compete with a couple teams to sneak into the playoffs at a 6 or 7 seed.
Don't sleep on Miami. They only have 2-3 weeks before the season starts and the window is open in MLS till I think May(?) so I expect them to keep adding to the team. Rumor is that they are about to add Andres Reyes from Atletico Nacional. One of the most promising defenders in Colombia. Sounds like the signing Red Bull would make with our M.O. That gives Miami a decent centerback pairing with Nicolás Figal. Lewis Morgan and Matías Pellegrini are unknowns but I doubt they will be worse than Daniel Royer and Josh Sims. I expect them to do better actually. Wil Trapp is a good central midfielder in MLS and Lee Nguyen is washed up but can still be effective in MLS. If they can find a good striker and attacking midfielder than Inter Miami can be very good.
Chicago Fire did have a league exec that was worse the De Grandpre but he was removed to the off-pitch side of the organization and the team is being run by a former FC Basel exec. Since then they've added Robert Berić who could do well in MLS as a second striker and a young promising left back in Miguel Navarro. The rumor mill has been good for them too since they are looking to add a right back and some midfielders.
Orlando City actually look good this season on paper and if Dwyer can find his scoring boots they could be actually good. Depends on how Oscar Pareja gets them to play.
Montreal is the dud of the Eastern Conference in 2020 but FC Cincinnati also look to be a lot better than before. Yuya Kubo, Jürgen Locadia, and Adrien Regattin are pretty good signings plus they are also looking to add more before the start of the season and this will be their first full season under Ron Jans.

Yeah, at the end of the day, I don't think we absolutely need 3 major names like a Thierry Henry type but at least names that are good enough to become MLS Cup contenders. Right now, we are not even in the conversation with the current squad.
Like, give me a DP signing along the lines of Eduardo Cossa or something.
