#1372106 Metro - Montreal Game Thread

The truth is, neither of these 3 strikers is MLS caliber player at this time. I know White scored, but just like before, he just played so bad the entire game, I just don't think that finish makes up for disappearance for the other 89 mins (edit: less than 89 since he was subbed, but you get the idea). I would more say Barlow and Jorgey are comparable in the fact they did cause danger and clearly contributed all game, but can't capitalize on opportunities. Jorgey, who just turned 20, has a decent chance to grow and fix his weaknesses, and playing him more out of 3 bad choices seems like the more reasonable thing to do. At least let's get more data on him, as so far Barlow and White got the preference.

A goal scorer is paid to score goals.  White does, they other guys don't.

#1372085 Midseason? grade

Posted by RedBullScouse on 24 September 2020 - 12:15 PM

What I gather from this statement is yesterday is the only game of ours Doyle has watched all year. And shit even yesterday wasn't exactly high flying, exciting soccer, we spent most of the game in our half. Miami simply gave up in the last 10 minutes.

He had as at an F grade up until this game.  He's been watching.

Stroud is not a good player.  He had a really nice pass to Jorgy that should have resulted in a goal.  Other than that pass, his passing in the attacking 3rd is piss poor.  And let's not give him credit for earning the penalty - he was going away from goal.  That was a clumsy challenge and 100% the fault of the defender.  Please let's not mention him in the same breadth as Kaku when comparing attacking qualities.

No one is comparing him to Kaku, but if you don't think he had a very good game then you were watching a different game than I was (along with the rest of the people who gave him the second highest player rating for the game.

Yes, please. Give me a coach that know what he needs to succeed and isnt afraid to ruffle feathers to get it.

Is this supposed to be another killer owl reference?

OMG.  This is his quote after his last game:

He is very prepared for this job.

Plus, their stadium is about the size of ours, and averages about 50% capacity.     He'll feel right at home.

White at this point has shown for better or worse that he is a good finisher but beyond that is only a back to goal forward/target man when it comes to hold up play/involvement.  Never going to help much in a 2 forward formation besides being a "Johnny on the spot" to finish a chance.  Barlow is so bad that in a 2 forward system i'd still play white but its not something he's made to do at all.

There's nothing wrong with being that guy.   Lots of very useful forwards have been that guy.    Skilled poachers can score a lot of goals...  Woly was a bit of that.

With 5 defenders and two forwards we are giving up the midfield. We just faced two of the worst teams in the League at home, and in each case gave up possession of the ball. It was nice to get a couple of finishes against DC, but both DC and Cincy created as many or more quality chances as we did, while out possessing us. It's pretty sad really.

FWIW, as over-rated as possession numbers can be, and say what you want about Davis, our possession falls apart without him.   And since we have no attacking punch, possession matters to us.  Yearwood should fix that once he gets acclimated, but Casseres is not a strong possession guy.  I haven't looked at his passing numbers,  but I doubt they are good.

#1371810 The Fire Bradley Carnell Thread

Posted by RedBullScouse on 21 September 2020 - 09:18 AM

That's really I think why Thellwell left him in charge. The absolute worst thing Armas was doing was screwing up with Kaku. We already witnessed how Murillo went from the all star back in MLS to back-up to Buckmaster and release, or benching of another star player Sims, resulting in him requesting a release. So, getting rid of Armas was imperative in order not to lose Kaku. As far actual performance, Bradley feels like a second assistant to Armas who took over the team. The team is playing the most boring brand of football I've seen in years, and that's even including Armas. We need a real coach as a permanent solution, hopefully sooner than later.

TBF, I think you have the Murillo situation backwards - he was benched for being a problem, he didn't become a problem because he was benched.    Sims almost certainly went back because of Covid and nothing else.

Meara confirmed out. Hopefully Jansen makes up for his last game versus these fools.

Gotta figure on Jensen going on a four year streak playing every minute of every game

#1371595 BWP signs with LAFC

Posted by RedBullScouse on 15 September 2020 - 05:58 AM

Up to 6 on the season, scoring every 111 minutes.

Good for him, and yet another indictment of Armas and Hamlett for failing to build a team that allowed him to produce.

I'm OK with the "better to sell too soon than too late."  BWP was hardly a sure thing going into this season, in any system (and its usually a failure when you have to adjust the system to the players).   The shame is on not having his replacement(s)  lined up and ready to produce.

#1371594 Valot / Casseres no longer international

Posted by RedBullScouse on 15 September 2020 - 05:51 AM

Have a whole winter to address the roster. Doubt anything is going to happen before this window closes.

12 matches left, by the time the player signs, gets a visa, quarantines, and gets up to speed its going to be a signing for next year anyway.

Yup, but getting even a few games this year and a full pre-season will make a huge difference for next year.

Even with the size disadvantage, I wouldn't bet against Luke Rodgers.

Both of their bodies of work show they can play at this level easily. If youre telling me we are going to upgrade massively at those positions, Im game. But I would rather upgrade other spots over those. We can win with Pendant and Duncan no problem

A case could be made that the team MVP right now is Duncan

Duncan has proven over both the long run and the short run to be wildly inconsistent.   Started out great, got relegated to the bench, redeemed himself... and then this performance.

#1370953 ARMAS GONE!

Posted by RedBullScouse on 04 September 2020 - 11:06 AM

...

As far as the chances on the DC game, even with real striker, we get no more than one goal. We only had 2-3 decent chances with all the possession. ...

We should have had two goals in the first 10 minutes.     Even one goal changes everything, forcing DC out of the bunker.     DC couldn't even travel with a full squad, they were absolutely depleted.  We should have won that game playing with 10 men.
